I've just managed to squeeze 258 miles out of my Scooby before the petrol light came on. It worked out to 23mpg when I filled the tank up. I was as light footed as possible, but I don't think I can get the mpg any better. Has anyone managed more? Is the magic 300 mile to one tank possible?

Well impressed with your result! I usually get between 210 to 240 miles per tank (works out as 18-20 mpg)

I started a similar thread a while ago and many people posted their results (do a search for "Crap MPG..." subject line if you are interested)

I was at Power Engineering today dyno testing my car and I asked them about mpg. They ran some tests and told that for the best fuel economy I shouldn't go over 80-85 mph, or 3500 rpms, or some psi of boost (I didn't remember because I don't have a boost gauge). Well, following these recos may result in better mpg but will definately spoil the whole driving experience IMHO.

Hope this helps.

Best ever was on a run from Edinburgh down home to London and managed an unbelievable 368 miles.
Normally get 275-280 to a tank with light on for about 30 miles.
This is better since changing downpipe.

and now worst!!:

last weekend at the Nurburgring I did 8 laps (not even very fast, between 10 and 11 minutes a lap, because I don't have much experience there)and some kilometers to the gasstation: 4.28 km with 1 liter (somebody recount in MPG?).

I did a bit of playing around and came to the conclusion that sitting at 3000 rpm in 5th gear gives the best fuel consumption, this equates to 76mph.

Later read in the car manual that this is the best speed to put it in to 5th gear. Strange that because it basically means that in this country you should never need 5th gear

The best I`ve ever managed to get out of the STI is 27mpg , this was done mainly sitting on the motorway at about 80-85 .
Dave
PS the STI is alot better on fuel than the WRX I owned .

conversion-key:
1 miles = 1.60934 km
1 km = 0.62137 miles

1 gallon = 0.21997 liter
1 liter = 4.54607 gallon

So: km/liter x 2.82481 = MPG
4.28 km/liter = 12.09 MPG
Normally I go around 23 MPG.

Mr. rsquire, how did you get that 9 mpg??

I've just managed 710 miles on £100 worth of petrol (premium, UK car) mixed driving, mainly long distance. I Think that works out at approx 27 mpg if my calcs are correct!

I must be getting fed up with seeing petrol stations and driving a little slower, because I used to get 18 mpg.

Now if I get a down pipe, BB, decat and link then maybe I can persuade the missus that it is for fuel saving reasons.

Best I've managed is 324.9 miles before the petrol light came on, which would have been about 355 from the whole tank. Not bad...

Don't worry too much about your MPGs. I have a 2.0 Focus until I get my Scoob later this year, and I only get 24mpg if driving enthusiastically, and it's only 128bhp! Think of all the fun you're having.

i didn't buy a scoob to worry about petrol consumption!

if i was worried i'd buy one of these petrol / electric cars we're tesing at work at the moment ! 83+ mpg !!!

still out of interest i did work it out over the first few tanks of UL.

was only around 22 to begin with driving fairly quickly.

run the car in a bit now (2700 miles) and on a motorway run at 80-85 with some town driving getting more like 27-28.

still for the fun i'm having i wouldn't complain (that much!) if it dropped to the mid-teens.

Doc,
Don't Suppose you slowed down and waved to a MY99 silver scoob near Birmingham?
I was well impressed with the guys waving technique (he was in an S reg terzo or reddish blue MY98 with gold wheels.... not to say i've adapted my own - only when I see nice scoob drivers of course

hi - a good way of knowing you've been on this bbs for a year is to check the posings of 'miles per gallon thread; :-) they come every year?

Anyway - I get average 300miles on a tank - up to empty line - with a '95 WRX 5 door, blitz induction and magnex backbox - well looked after.

I do a lot of motorway miles but like to have some fun on the country A roads.

This is more than my partner gets on her Golf Gti III.....

O yes - I've come to the conclusion there is absolutely NO difference in consumption with BP normal and super....and doesn't seem much smoother either!

Can't wait until next year's MPG posting....

I managed 30 mpg driving from Woking to Durham, I filled up before I left, then wrote down how many litres I had used when I filled up again in Durham and got just a fraction over 30. This is all thanks to Pete's s/s downpipe / centre pipe and backbox as I used to get 24mpg with just a Trust backbox. It was in a 240BHP 93 WRX and during heavy bank hol friday traffic.....
amazing eh ?

I cover about 300 miles a week, which is made up of about 100m on the motorway, 100m of 30-50 zones and the rest on gun-ho A and B roads.
I usually go about 80-85 on the motorway, too many unmarked *******s around!!!!
I normally get 250- 280 out of a tank!!!!!
I once hit 280 before the light came on and filled up at 306.
Can't get past 250 before the light these days!!!!!
Who the hell cares I'm having fun, but I would like some decent roads for all the Tax that I'm giving to 2 f***ing jags Prescot and President Blair. ( we will not raise taxes ) Rember that promise from the last election!!!!!! Mind you the Tories did not help with their fuel esculator. Petrol is only 54p a litre in Spain!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MY00 std UK turbo. Got it last Novemeber, shortly after wrote "The truth is in the FAQ" thread detailing my 300 plus miles on a tank and cacking my pants to get to a garage.

Since, without trying very hard, still manage 300 to a tank regularly. Never bothered to calculate MPG as I'm only concerned when it's about to run out!

Averaged 22 to 23mpg when driven carefully.

I spoke to my dealer just before the 12 month service as I was getting just over 200 miles to a tank of super unleaded, including long motorway runs at around 80-85.

They replaced the ECU and did a reset on it and since then I've been getting 300+ miles to a tank, or nearer 400 on longer journeys.
