Hi Guys, wondering if you can help!

Im thinking of buying a new WRX or STI for my 39th Birthday. Is it woth paying the extra for STI. what dose PPP stnad for. if i got STI what would be best engine upgrade be and How much. I currently own a Scooby Sports but fancy something that will set my heart racing that little bit more!!

I drove the std WRX then the STI afterwards as a direct comparison and the sti was more my thing - coming from a Civic type r it felt much more planted and much faster.
I would get the STI if that's your thing, then wait till it's first major service @ 10k miles/12Months then get PPP (Prodrive Performance Package) fitted taking it from 265hp to 305hp while keeping the all important warrenty.
This will cost you £2k all in fitted by your dealer, you will need to tell your insurance when you do it so make sure you go with an insurer who likes mods first.
The PPP will add value to the car and you get a certificate to prove it's been done, for when/if you ever sell the car.

I booked a week off work and had loads of test drives of wrx, wrx+ppp, sti and sti+ppp. The only way to choose is to drive in my opinion.

And another thing...
If the sti is not your thing, you can always get a wrx and get the PPP on that. This costs £1600 and takes the wrx to 265hp.

STI = harsher ride, more all out performance car, definately the fastest in PPP form with lots of STI extras (including a 6 speed box).

WRX = better for everyday driving IMO, less crashy and can almost equal the performance of a standard STI once PPP has been fitted.

Drive both, its the only way to be sure you get what suits your driving style. Plus of course the WRX PPP is just over £21k while the STI PPP is nearly £27k (at list prices).

If money is no problem then what a great position to be in! Good luck finding whats right for you.

(oh by the way, a mod friendly insurance company is Liverpool and Victoria)

 

Go for STi then get it PPP-d after a few K miles. Therefore enjoy getting 2 cars for the price of 1 (plus £2K). I had WRX then PPP-d it and soon realised the mistake and had to go for STi + PPP. Now happy!

The almost equal the performance of a standard STI once PPP has been fitted isnt correct.

The WRX PPP has more pulling power 257 lb.ft at 3500 rpm compared to the STi's 243 lb.ft at 4000 rpm

0-60 5.2 for the STi, 4.8 for a WRX PPP

 

That's the extra gear change

There's 3 yrs free servicing on wrxs at the mo', which i dont think you get with the sti.
Just something else to consider.

After 14 months in an '03 WRX have just swapped it for an '03 STi (without PPP...for the moment). Both great, WRX is more civilized, but it's gotta be an STI.

 

After reading that not so sure As will have to test drive both .

I was unsure as to what to get ,I read that review's ,test drove a few and talked to a few people with Scoob's
Another thing that helped me in my decision was EVO magazine's review "A Genuine Performance Bargain"

I decided up on a WRX with the PPP pack and the Prodrive springs.

in total you should be able to get a WRX PPP with the springs for less than £21500 if you shop around.

Other thing was that a STi is £24995 ,mines just as quick and iv got money in my pocket for fuel ,and 3 years free servicing which you don't get with the STi

Is there a Scooby group near you? if there is go along to one of there meeting and have a natter with one or two there and get there views.

One last thing when I was in my local dealers the other day ,we where on about the STi's and the salesman I bought my car off was telling me that as the main guy was on holiday and his car was left at the garage (STi PPP with other mods) as its there STi demo he expected the other salesman to be using it he's got a WRX PPP with the Prodrive springs as a demo but he hasn't touched it because he would much rather use the WRX.

I really dont know what to do now. Ive seen STI for £20999 imported but UK spec. They say you still get 3years warrenty. the WRX is £16599.

 

If you've got that much to spend why not take a P1 out for a drive

not 100% sure but you might have a problem getting a PPP pack fitted to an import even if it is to UK spec.

Plus you might get less for it when you decide to change

Not true. The STI has 253 at 4000. Drive an STI and you WILL notice a difference especially in the cornering dept. I would go STI everytime, one test drive and I am hooked

The sti has 253lbft or 343Nm.
