Would you buy 1 with 131k miles on the clock???

aparently has FSSH owned by a mechanic. 94 M reg silver, std ish motor clean for its age, what you think?

seems alot of miles and I dont want too many problems with a car thats expensive to repair.

 

The price would be the factor. There are a lot of scoobs for sale out there.

 

there is your right BUT when you cant get an import insured half the scoobs for sale are off the list, the other half are above my 7.5k budget, this is up for 5k but with hgh miles and I know the misses aint keenon high miles. 131k must be due for a cam belt too.

 

I'd be worried the mechanic serviced it himself and got the booked stamped by his mate at the Subaru dealers.

Mechanics are notorious for not looking after their cars.

 

true but this is the 5th owner hes only had it since october

 

You should get a reasonable R reg for that money, mate. And I'd have thought with fewer than 70k on it.

 

If he's the fifth owner and only had it six months I'd steer well clear.

I always think that if you have any doubts at all, don't go near it, whatever it is.

Until you can find the car that you can't let get away, keep your money in your pocket!

Be paitent, you'll appreciate more and end up better off!

 

wouldnt touch it mate, you will end up spending a fortune on it, with that sort of millege thing's are bound to start going kaboom sooner or later, save up a bit more and get a lower millege FSSH car.

Doesn't sound ideal, but don't discount it completely.

Firstly, 5 owners on a 10yr old car isn't too bad.

I would check when the clutch and cambelt were last done (if more than 50k ago, you will probably want to look at getting at least the cambelt done).

A car with over 100k isn't necessarily a bad thing - but only if it has fully traceable history, and records of when all all changes and service were done. Mine has just gone 100k, however had a new short engine under warranty 50k ago, with a clutch, and the history and receipts confirm that all services have been done at recommended intervals (and more) at main dealers, plus it's had additional oil changes in between (every 3k miles). I would challenge anyone to fault my engine (or the rest of the car) - to me it's been cared for like a baby and is just starting to open up, and will go to 200k easily if the servicing is kept up as it has been so far.

So, check the history, check the car over thoroughly (AA check or similar would be an idea if you think it might be a goer), and ask a few questions.

However, with 7.5k you would get newer and better - would be worth spending more.

 

You can definitely get a decent scoob for 7.5k. I would say that the 94M is worth 3 grand, tops. I'm going to be selling my '99 'S' reg Wagon soon, and I'll only be expecting a grand or so more than your budget limit. Mine's only got 85k on it and has FSH and new discs and pads all round, so the one you're on about is a dog by comparison. (this is not an attempt to circumvent the advertising charge, BTW- I'm fairly sure that Davegtt is after a saloon, because there's a similar one to mine in "For Sale" that he hasn't replied to) Don't buy that one- there are loads about that are better.

Well... my my99 (101,300 miles with brand new engine at 84k and gearbox at 76k) with FSSH and very good condition went for £7,000 on 7th Feb and that was after trying to sell it for around 3 months...

So... go figure on prices at the moment

 

its actually a 1995 car, and by 98 it'd done 90k miles so I worked out it was a rep car doing motor way miles and the last 6 years its done 40k, it looked and seemed the most genuine scoob Ive seen so far tbh, there was a rattle down the back of the engine (somewhere between the turbo and g/box asked what he thought it was and he said the heatshielf but he cant fix it.

walked away to have a think but doubt its the 1.

put a deposit down at the weekend on a W reg mica blue 1, 32k miles full prodive body styling and engine mods. £7500 Bargain I thought until I did a HPI check on it on sunday been written off TWICE couldnt believe it, shell looked good to me, I was more worried about outstanding finance on the car. so if u see a scoob in autotrader for sale for 7800 in wolves then stay clear

The weekend that I decided to go for a good grive around yorkshire testing scoobs, one turned up on the friday which i had to see (and bought) and was with the same budget as you.

My99 V reg Turbo2000 Wagon (UK spec) with 68,000 miles on the clock, never missed a service and all by main dealer apart from the last 2 which were done by a specialist. was just serviced, had £400 of brand new tyres on it and had a full MOT, couple of months tax and a tracker which i needed for my insurance....and totally standard and untouched

Maybe I was lucky, but just keep looking mate

(I've probarbly just jinxed my car now, piston 3 will probarbly give up on the way home!)

James, glad you found a bargain, Im a sucker though for looking at 1 and thinking yeah I'll have that...lol trying to be good and picking the right 1 though cause I dont fancy big bills. got 1 or 2 on the cards to look at, theres a red 1 (not my fav colour) in the trader, S reg 60k miles ont clock for £6750, £6500 and it'd be mine, not had chance to see it yet, the owner was in cumbria last weekend so we'll see if its still there on saturday

The red ones are a funny colour, not my favorite in general but i've seen some that look stunning, I think there may have been some subtle colour variations in the red paint. I think it's the red mica that's the nice one, saw a really nice one when i was in the lakes. you just need to get it colour coded as the black plastic really stands out against the red.

you just need to remember to be objective when you go and view the car, that's the hardest part. take someone with you as they may spot something that you don't, especially as your eyes start to become a little hazy as you fall in love with the car
