Question Noises from turbo?

Since I had a new short engine fitted (big end failure), I've been experiencing whistling noises when accelerating almost as though something was leaking near the turbo. Any ideas as to what it may be? I hope its not the turbo on its way out.

Question

That's good - it means it's working harder

Do you hear the pitch rise as you apply power? Can you hear it over the stereo at a reasonable volume?

Got the same thing here and the answer to both questions is "yes". Had this since day one, had the dealer look into it every time I put the car in for a service and they can find nothing wrong. 35K kms and still running fine.

Yes the pitch does rise and yes you can hear it over the stereo. If it's "normal" I don't understand why it wasn't there before. Having said that there is no desernable difference in pick up.

Have you had a decat exhaust or a non standard air filter installed along with your engine rebuild, cos that will up the volume of the turbo noise in the cabin.

Dan.

I have had the same problem since having a new clutch fitted and I cannot find out what's wrong. I have checked every pipe subject to pressurised air, the intercooler and I've inspected the turbo, both visually and by listening to a recording of turbo vibration. Coincidentally, the up-pipe heatshield came loose at the same time and now my cam cover gasket's leaking, so starting to wonder if it's a crack in the header or up-pipe. Very very annoying. Will post a solution if I ever find one...
