I'll not type it all out, but its fair to say they love it.

They say ' If you happen to have £30k to spend on one car to serve as daily driver, family motor and weekend track weapon, we can only recommend one place for your money'

Tut tut Craig...£30k doesn't buy you an M3 or AMG Merc now does it
Evo 8 not such a good all-rounder IMHO...
I think they should have said ' ' If you happen to have £30k to spend on one (new, UK official import ) car to serve as daily driver, family motor and weekend track weapon, we can only recommend one place for your money' though

or if you have 30k to spend and want some change you can buy a regular sti ppp and stick a badge on.

Since when was a STi PPP not as good as a WR1. I think you better wake up and smell the coffee, WR1 is a good car but it ain't worlds apart like the P1 was to the UK Turbo. And as far as being worth a lot more, I reakon about £500-£1k more in 3 years.

What you reckon and what is going to be fact are miles apart..IMHO

DCCD-A makes the WR1 a better handling car and a better all round package IMHO.

No doubting it's a good car Subaruwr1, but I wouldn't be too confident on its resale value compared to an STI (which you can get with PPP for less than 25K new, plus a bit more for springs) - esp. when they decide to:

a) produce more than 500 of them;
b) offer the WR1 map on the STI;
c) market another better official UK Impreza.

Would you bet big money against any/all of the above happening in the next 12 months????

Erm, since always. Even if you forget the fact that the WR1's engine is quicker again than the "regular" STi Type UK PPP, all its "bits" are standard, which makes it cheaper to insure than the normal STi PPP. Most importantly though, it had the DCCD, which offers much more rewarding on the limit handling.

So yes, while there may not be as big a difference between the "normal" STi PPP and the WR1 than there was between the Turbo 2000 AWD and the P1, anyone thinking that there's no difference at all needs thicker glasses.

they will treading on thin ice if they release more than 500 due to the 500 owners not being very happy as they bought the car knowing that only 500 were made.(We all have leaflets stating this fact)
They can offer the WR1 map on a STi but its still not a WR1!
Market a better official UK Impreza...cant see resale values dropping due to that, other wise wrx's would be worth nothing by now with WRX PPP's,STi's,STi PPP's and now WR1's available...and look at P1's .their value has not dropped since a WR1 has been announced (Maybe a WR1 isnt better?)

dont want to get into a arguement but this is my homnest opinion

Unlikely, given the debacle of the P1.

Remains to be seen, but certainly possible. Even if they do though, the WR1 will retain its exclusivity thanks to its combination of features, some of which aren't avalilable through any other (official UK dealer chain) car at this time.

c) market another better official UK Impreza.
There's always a better car on the horizon, and anyone who buys any car thinking otherwise should be sterilised to prevent their naivety polluting future generations.

No, I don't need to defend it. WR1 looks like a great car but there is so much hype over limited editions that people sometimes get carried away and start belittling other models in it's class.

What? I don't know which thread you've been reading Boyakasha, but I don't notice anyone "belittling" the normal models.

That comment implies that you think the STi PPP is "as good" as the WR1. That just ain't so, sorry.

Sure, the STi PPP is a very good car, but the WR1 is clearly better again, and that's purely down to its feature set, sod all to do with whether it's a limited edition or not...

Are we also forgetting a set of Prodrive wheels, HID driving lights, suspension tweaks etc? IIRC it also comes with the quicker Spec C steering rack?

No doubt DCCD-A will become commonplace on future STi's but by then the WR1 owners will have had months of (warrantied) enjoyment...

why does everyone insist they are only building 500 WR1's?

Please see the EVO mag article and you will discover that they are building 1000, 500 for the UK and 500 for Australia, South Africa and other european countries.

And don't shoot the messenger.

With respect to only 500 being made...

Renault got away with producing the limited edition Clio Williams, then the Williams 2 etc.

I would not put it past Subaru to produce a WR1 MkII.

They have made more than 500 in ice blue with DCCD's but no PPP, 18", grill etc, the rest over 500 are not for the UK - watch out for these as imports advertised as WR1's when they're not.

There are 1000 Solberg edition Ice Blue cars with DCCD. Of those, 500 are coming to the UK. The UK cars will then be breathed-on by Prodrive to create the WR1 which is only available in the UK.
