engine sometimes cutting out and juddering ?

i have a problem with my94 wrx automatic wagon! i have a problem thats bugging me now when i first start the engine when its been stood overnight and select reverse or drive the car occasionly judders sometimes quite bad and in some cases has even cut ou!! sometimes none of the above happen but when i slow to stop at a junction it judders and revs go up and it occasinly stalls!! i have found that if i leave the car for say 5 mins before attempting to select a gear a move off then the above problems dont happen?
has anyone got any ideas on whats happening to my car or has the same problem?
i read somewhere about clutch judder on subarus but being automatic will this still happen as it isnt the same as a manual ?
the car is standard apart from a tsl centre section and firestorm backbox and an itg panel filter

Not being expert on auto transmission this could be way off.
But, had the car been a manual I would have most certainly said change the MAF sensor and probably the 02 sensor as well. I had a similar situaton a while ago and didnt want to get caught out so simply replaced both at the same time.
MAF -> Subaru -> £75 ish.
O2 -> Halfords -> £25.
for a hundred pounds the car ran delightfully smooth again.
of course I could be way off but it worked for me.

sorry guys I dont know where your O2 sensors are on the phase 1's.
on 99/00 (phase 2) cars its in the neck of the downpipe.
the part no. I beilieve is L300 universal lambda sensor from halfords, you need to get a couple of connectors as well and splice the new sensor wires into your existing loom.
mine has been on for about 6 months/ 10,000mls and (touch wood) its hunky dory so far.

is your engine coil per piston, if so you need to get four if you want to renew them and they are current £55.46 each from subaru i think thats what i paid anyway.
your o2 sensor is below the intercooler in the exhaust down pipe (y)
