Hi,

I've got an WRX03 with a Green Cotton panel filter and had NO problems to date. 6000miles covered since fitment. Can hear more suction noise on hard acceleration. Save ££ when dealer wants to change it on the service!

Purchased from TSL for about £40-50.

Most peeps recommend the foam versions (ITG) but I read too many bad reports about the oil being sucked off the filter onto the MAF sensor (on the older model scoobs).

I couldn't get enought feedback on peeps fitting panel filters to their 03's so I played it safe and went for the green.

Hope this helps your decision.

Cheers

Frank

Induction kits are not really worth it as your taking the air from the engine bay (so hot air) but i would suggest you look at www.scoobymania.co.uk and browse for the sti panel filter (approx 50 quid), probably the best you can get

Oh yea, be careful about using an induction kit as I thinks this invalidates your warranty.

Echo what's been said about ITG. Similar cleanable/re-useable filters from K&N, Green and JR Racing offer the same performance without the threat to the MAF. Alternatively, there is the paper (hence disposable at service) STi filter (look in group buys forum ) which is very good. Whichever you get, make sure that you change back to a used mucky OE paper filter before the service, as an non standard part will invalidate any subsequent warranty claim, and a MAF could set you back $400ish

You've already got a dump valve ! It's just a recirculating as opposed to a VTA or blow off. The VTA's do create a nice (bus doors opening ) sound, but due to the pressure being released into the atmosphere, the ECU expecting a certain amount of air at the AFR sensor compensates by overfuelling. This is not good. At best it creates a pop or bang through the exhaust. It ain't broke, so don't fix it. Spend the money on better things, like driver tuition, handling/suspension upgrades or styling.

The DV is the thing just under the "i" in STi on the intercooler above the red manifold.....

Corradoboy,

I disagree with removing the aftermarket panel filter to re-install the stock filter as this will only cause your dealer to charge you for replacing the filter after the service.

I'd only swap it back if I was specifically reporting a problem which could relate to the filter's installation.

I believe dealers have been told by IM to record any non-standard parts at service to protect them against potential fraudulent claims. If you want to invalidate any MAF claims by leaving it in and informing them not to change/charge the filter, then be prepared to pay for your own MAF should it go.

Fair comment but i reckon any so called instructions to dealers to 'record' modifications to vehicles would be aimed at the enthusiast who carries out extreme mods like : decat, induction kits etc. I couldn't see a simple cotten filter screwing the MAF (i've not read of it as yet).

Just my thoughts but as you say its the risk you take.

There has been quite a few people on here reporting MAF failure due to ITG filters. You don't need many to set alarm bells ringing at IM. I was only offering advise.

Hi,

No probs mate, I'm not having a go. I agree with your comments entirely.

i get worked up sometimes by such companies who like the slightest excuses to have a get out clause. MAF sensor failure for example may be due to poor components and some scoob owners may pay dearly because of this.
