Yeh, even made me wanna go in the garage and get on with my my long-term full restoration project - 12 years so far and its still a bare bodyshell, but its now just about ready for painting.
V8, 3 litre, 150hp, power steering, servo brakes, overdrive (whatever happened to that?),electric windows, open top grand tourer - yep a Staaaaaaaaaaaaag.
When I took the engine apart, I got about half a pint of casting sand out from various nooks and crannies in the block. And the guy that cast one of the big aluminium rear wishbones wrote his initials and the date in the sand at the bottom of the mould, so they stand out in relief when you look at the bottom of the wishbone - shame he forget that they come out in mirror image though!

AFAIK a lot of Stags now have Rover V8s in them as the original engines have expired. In a similar way, lots of TR6s have three Webers instead of the original mechanical fuel injection as it has packed up.
Carl "was going to buy a Spitfire or a GT6 once"

Yep top show.
Not totally sure about his analysis of why they didn't use the Buick V8. I read somewhere on an MG site that the engine was built under licence and the volume was limited. In fact the MGBGT V8 was killed off to give them volume for the SD1 even though the MG was very popular.
Can you get Stags with a Rover V8 in them? Quity fancy once for a summer toy, but wouldn't want the hassle of the original engine.
Cheers
