I am wanting to fit an induction kit to my MY03 WRX and am new to Scoobies.Can anyone give me some advice on which is best and what power gain will I achieve. Have fitted Prodrive back box and centre de-cat pipe. Someone has recommended me to avoind HKS super power flow as they can damage the air flow sensor and cause piston melt. Any views ?

 

The simple answer is dont fit one. I had one from a reputable manufacturer and during a re-map the induction kit was found to be making the car inlet temp run 17 degrees more than with a panel filter...It was imediately changed back to a panel filter....

There are many threads on here regarding this matter and MAF failures, knock etc... have a trawl through and you will find some technical replies....

 

I don't think induction kits are as scary or risky as everyone on here will make you believe but then again there is no real need for one unless you have big power( then you need one ) a panel filter will be quite happy in a 01+WRX up to 290bhp and 340bhp in an STI

btw, the inlet temps you would of seen would of been read from the maf thus not being charge temps so if you had a induction kit in the engine bay with no direct routing of cold air it will only ever suck engine bay temps!!!!!

An APS kit however, sit in the inner wing thus draws air from the inner wing and not the engine bay

Some cars respond well to them, apparently the impreza doesnt.

 

On mine it wasnt about affecting the engine etc it was the fact it was stopping the car from performing the way it should.

 

Any point in changing to a better quality panel filter ?

 

It will make a tiny bit if difference, yes. Seeing as you have a newish car that's presumably still under warranty, an STi filter would probably be the best bet.

 

on my MY93(yes i know its 10 years difference) i try an induction kit, but ended up drilling some 1inch holes in the air box instead and using a pannel filter, which seemed alot better.
well it made 224@wheels and 262@flywheel on sunday with just that and a de-cat center section. it 'should only' make 240@flywheel.

 

I run a 'green' panel filter now and all is well.....i miss the induction kit sound but if it isnt doing what its supposed to whats the point? Besides i have the sound back with a dump valve now

 

Am gong through the same dilemma chap, am running a Green Panel at the moment in a STI V3 but have found a source for the A'pexi Ind kit.(Apparently one of the better ones for BHP and standard of filtration, and its dry!) Not bad money at £105 but as has been commented, the important thing is to make sure cold air is being fed onto it from inner wing etc.

 

The HKS powerflow on my cousins car blew two MAFs before they sussed, been fine since the standard airbox went back on. Hate the noise too, very max power! As rb5 scott said, unless your going for big power leave it alone and get a louder exhaust instead!
