Arrow Advice Needed - Re Subaru Warranty

My Classic (MY00) is coming up to its 3rd year birthday and yeap the warranty's due for renewal. Touch wood the only claim so far has been to the usual scratched front windows.

My dilemma.......

1. Do I renew my warranty by the end of this month for a further 2 years and withhold from decatting the baby. Or

2. Renew my warranty and do the mods anyway and if something happens then have them changed back before I make a claim. Or

3. Go for non Subaru warranty who are exhaust modifications friendly.(Any recommended companies?)

There must be other fellow owners who are in or have been in the same boat

Thanks in advance your comments.............

Bought a Subaru approved MY00 in Dec last year and paid for the extra 2 years warranty. Mostly because all the paperwork looked good there was always the niggle that something major could go wrong. If you have had it from new and have been kind to it, I would consider not bothering

It depends on you

3 years no problems so got a good car why bother with warranty.

3 years no problems so everything now waiting to break .

Warranty's are cheaper if continue seamlessly after the 3year IM, Taken up after a gap or missed service it will cost a lot more. IIRC IMHO

Warranty is for piece of mind, Scoobies are fairly reliable for a High performance car but expensive to repair if break. 3 year old most parts that are now worn will be consumables and not covered by any Warranty, Pads, Discs, Clutch etc.

"You Pays Yer Money..........etc."

sorry to be no help

Tony

Had mine from new. MY01 WRX. Just hit 3 years old and the only problem has been with the alarm not working in certain areas, box replaced under warrenty and is now fine.
Couldn't wait any longer to mod it. Just had a full ScoobySport exhaust incl. up-pipe and EcuTek remap and OMG what a difference. I was always happy with it in standard trim but now I've got that huge grin plastered all over my face again every time I get in and turn the key.
Go on, you know you want to!

"Touch wood the only claim so far has been to the usual scratched front windows." - my MY00 turbo has lots of vertical scratch marks on the drivers side window, have you any idea what causes it as I was going to replace the drop glass and didn't want the same thing happening to the new glass.

I am in the process of renewing, IM have offered me 3 years unlimited mileage for £800, I have spoken to a couple of dealers and they can't match it. Also I do not have to have my car serviced at a Subaru franchised dealer, as long as servicing is done to Subaru's spec' then warranty is OK, which for me is great as I trust my local specialist Prosport more than my local dealer.

I think its something to do with the guides/pads in the doors. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

There are some felt pads in the door which guide the windows, these pads over time get full of muck and eventually scratch the windows. I have had mine replaced twice, windows and guides under warranty.

Are you saying I have recieved a bad offer? Remember it is for 3 years unlimited mileage. The best a dealer could offer was £762 for 2 years unlimited.

Most people who thought it was expensive have found that they are restricted to 60K, interesting to see what yours is. I have spoken to 2 dealers and they say that they are unable to buy a 3 year warranty from IM, they only get the 2 year options.

I've got a renewal through for £440 for two years! Limited to 60K Miles.

Just gave them a call (tel 0208 603 9921) and was advised the same only 12 or 24 Month options.

Thats cool with me..........

Sorry, forgot to say, no I didnt extend my warranty. I've had the car from new so I know how its been treated and I really cudnt wait any longer to start moding. The PPP is not the route I wanted to go. Got a much better package from ScoobySport.

I bought my MY00 in June last year just as it's initial warranty was coming to an end so I decided to take the extended warranty for 2 years to give me that piece of mind. Must admit though after just over 6 months of ownership I'm itching to get a de-cat and ecu remap but can't now due to the warranty! It's all a gamble at the end of the day with the warranty really. Yes they're generally very reliable cars but if something fairly major was to go wrong chances are it would cost a lot more than the cost of the warranty to repair. It all depends what your priority is I guess.

Dan

Suppose ya right, its a tough one aint it.

But that decating bug always gets me.....especially when i hear other scoobys which have.

What a nightmare.......recon from scoobynet it seams that people have just stuck wid the warranty and held off on the mods, as hard as it may be think I'll have to just hold off.

Thanks for all your comments.
