I was just looking through the spec of WRX's, wagons and STi's and noticed that only the wagons have 'split/fold rear seats', the saloons appear to have a 'boot-through rear seat'.

What's that then ... my MY98 saloon has what I'd call split/fold rear seats and jolly useful it is to, is the 'boot-through' thing diferent ?

 

Ski Flap, they don't have fold down seats because of the fixed rear baulkhead

 

the section between in center of the rear seats folds to give access to boot from the inside or ability to transport a longer object such as in my case a wakeboard.

I'm amazed. For a year or so now I've been edging towards the day when I can trade up from the MY98 turbo to a MY03. I feel as if I know the ins and outs of WRX's and STi's backwards, just waiting for the day.

And now I've found that they don't actually have a basic feature like split/fold rear seats, so all the saloons have just ruled themselves out of consideration. (I use that feature frequently - like nearly every time I go to B&Q).

Back to the drawing board then. No STi wagons either...

Yes, a PPP'd wagon looks like the only option now.

I've nothing against wagons, I suppose I feel annoyed with myself for not spotting this great big stumbling block before, and I'm annoyed with Subaru because the current models don't have something that was standard back in 1998 (except on the RB5 IIRC). My previous performance saloon (Carlton GSi 24V) had split/fold rear seats as well.

My Scoob has always been a supremely practical car. The later saloon models, although improved in all sorts of areas, can't match it in that respect.

Even the Legacy saloon doesn't have folding seats, although the estate does.

 

Maybe they went for a fixed bulkhead to stiffen the chassis, or perhaps for security?
