Default Pop! Pop! Bang! Bang! :(

Hi all,

Since having my H&S downpipe fitted (already had H&S backbox), the car now pops and bangs all the time... I know many of you strive for this for some reason, but it's starting to get annoying. The odd pop and bang when booting it I don't mind, but the car now pops, bangs and farts even when in traffic.

Obviously it's over fueling but how can I sort this out? Car is an MY98 UK turbo. Is my only option to change the management to a Link perhaps? What would be the additional benefits of doing this?

Thanks all for advice

Karl

Andy I agree, with the standard setup. With a Link though i'm sure you can adjust the fueling, so perhaps this could sort it out?

Strange thing is, Peanuts has the same exhaust setup as me on his MY99 but he doesn't get hardly any noise, if at all! But then again, the MY99 has different management....

Karlos, call me tonight after say 6.30pm.
I thought from the title you had done something BAD!!
The following is my opinion only and may bear zero resemblance to fact!!

MY99 has a better (allegedly) ECU which is considerably quicker at reading the fuel and adjusting the mixture.
My ECU adjusts both up and down, I think your ECU only retards when it reads bad fuel.
I also have a resonated centre pipe which might make a difference.
the only time I go pop or bang is when I bounce off the rev limiter.
Have you done an ECU reset to set the fueling to your new mods?
Jamie McD has the same spec as you, with unresonated centre and doesnt pop or bang AFAIK.
try a reset, then bell me
Andy

Here for the details on resetting the ECU Karlos.

As a matter of interest do you have the standard (or another) recirculating dumpvalve, or do you have a vent to atmosphere one installed? If the latter, swapping back to a recirc will remove a lot of the lift-off overfuelling, while a resonated centre won't do any harm either.

MY99 ECU won't do anything in an MY98 Ron.

Greasemonkey, the car is running the standard recirculating dump valve as far as I'm aware. That said however, the car has always (even before fitting any exhaust parts) made a sound like it A) had an induction kit/induction noise, which it doesn't, and B) made a sound like a VTO BOV... Me wonders if something is focked somwhere, or I have an air leak? Could this cause me a problem?

Thanks for the ecu reset link btw
