Default Import FM Radio probs

Drove my new Scoob (import) home today and noticed the FM band was all screwed up....

Did a bit of surfing when i got home and found that it's because Japan uses 76-90mhz.

It has a tremendous Kenwood CD/MD player which I would love to keep - seems it may be possible to get an 'expander'?? to allow it to use our full range.

Any other import owners experienced this and can recommend something that can sort it??

BTW I love, grin factor?? Damn I was laughing out loud it really is a tremendous car.

Cheers,

Rob.

My own car came with a frequency shifter fitted, but I had abit of a whislte in the background which I don't know if it was due to the shifter or headunit, so I changed it to a uk head unit. Get a shifter and try it, if it works all well and good.

It's not a classic it's what I've seen described as a 'new age' one.

Actually I just looked at the Frequency, I suppose it might actually have been converted I was so confused at the time I didn't reallly take much notice. But from the radio stations I got I don't think so.

Anyone know where I can buy a 'shifter' ?

The frequency shifter may already be there if you can already pickup radio stations.

The display will still show the old frequecy though, for example in London, Kiss 100FM is at 82.0 - Radoio 1 (98.5) is at 80.5.

Basically, in my car I knock off 18 to find the station I want.

Hope this helps

Look in some of the Jap car mags.
I've one fitted to my JDM Wrx and the reception is kakk. 1 or 2 stations are generally ok but most are really poor, lots of interference, get 2 stations at once, etc. Like you I'd like to keep the head unit but unless I can resolve this issue I'll have to replace it.

I can get radio one which is outside 76-90, so it must have something fitted already, I'll have a decent play when I get more time.

I saw one place that had a switchable one that lets you get either 86 - 100 or 94 - 108 i think....

Thanks for the replies

Your radio must have a frequency expander fitted. Mine also came like this which means you just have to search above the range of the unit display and feel your way to the station. It should work fine but it pi$$ed me off so much a bought a new single din unit!...lol
Hope that helps

Mine hasn't got an expander, and I didn't bother with one as I was not going to keep the car. That was over 4 years ago, and I'm happy with the de-cat centre pipe and 5live (although I could have Radio 2 and even Virgin if I was desperate!).
