Question

When pottering about at low speed in traffic where you are on and off the gas. I get a strange knocking at the rear of the car, as if something is banging on the underside of the car. Car is a standard P1.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards
Paul

Difficult to say without hearing, but it might well be the rear dampers.

Does it go away when you speed up a bit ?

Yes it does. The sound seems to come from the middle rear of the car. I'm no mechanic but could it be the rear diff.

Bit off topic (only just), but it can be very hard to pinpoint the exact location of a noise from inside the car. Last week I had a terrible noise, which I would have sworn came from the rear of the car. Turned out to be the front endlink bush that was gone my dealer had to walk next to the car (at slow speed ) to be able to hear where it came from.

That said ... only noise I have heard the rear diff make (I think) is the loud "thud" when you accelerate full steam.

Again, hard to tell without hearing, but one of the first suspects has to be the dampers.

Does it make the noise while you are just coasting ? In neutral ? Or only when you are applying torque ?

Any mods on the car like MRT swaybars ?
