Default 386bhp yesterday from a 97UK on standard ECU and injectors

Hi,

Yesterday's dyno day at Well lane produced some amazing results for my car.

It's a 97 UK turbo and I'm still using the standard ECU and injectors, albeit with a FCD and an electronic boost controller set at 1.35bar

I hit 386bhp and 317lbsft.

And that is without a front mount, just on MRT uprated top mount.

All that was changed from my last run of 344 was the OEM headers ported and wrapped, stainless Jap Innovations uppipe and Jap Innovations new backbox and a tad more fuel pressure.

Special thanks go to Jap Innovations for all the work done on my car so far and also to Harvey for porting my headers for me and to Andy F for providing the turbo.

Thanks also to Harvey and Andy for all their free advice too. They have both been a great help.

I think if I'm not mistaken that that is the highest figure I've seen on a top mount and also the highest figure I've seen on 380 injectors too. I can't remember what Andy got with his car on the 05 turbo but I reckon it's the highest figure for an 05 that I've seen too.

Is this a record?

Standard injectors!!!!!! Bloody hell!!!!

Didnt think it could be done

So if you changed your injectors to 550s, your figures will be very nice indeed!!!

Well done

Excellent Rich . Very good power figure but the 317lb/ft of torque isn't too shabby either (for 1.35 bar).

Tony.

P.s what's the best e-mail to get you on Rich.... i keep threatening to get to Jap to order a few bits but end up getting out of bed after you've closed on a saturday .

Is it still a reliable daily runner or does the power hike give you trouble?

Hi,

Thanks for the replies,

I've got a dyno sheet, but not a scanner unfortunately so i can't put it up here.

I had about 80 witnesses though.

Yes, it is a daily runner and it gets USED. The only issue i've had was a blown gearbox, which I replaced with a 2000 box. Since then, no troubles (touch wood)

Not been to Prosport yet, but I've been to G Force 2 weeks after I got 339 at Well Lane and i got 326 there on a much warmer day. Imagine would get much the same at Prosport as a result.

If you look at the figures I'll be posting in "Northern" later you can see that the power figures are pretty accurate.

My spec as shown on the link above isn't up to date.

For the full spec check out Well lane thread in Northern.

NICE one Rich

Not sure if it is a TMIC record, Xavier in France is making around 395bhp on a TD05/06-20G fitted to his Sti7.

As far as I'm aware 386bhp _IS_ a record for the TD05FE on a Subaru I had previously made 369bhp on a TD05 at Star Performance using a charge cooler.

Hey, Tone loc, I told you that style of FE inlet pipe was deceivingly efficient

HELL yeah, the boy did good

Congrats to you Rich. We were all very impressed at the power and torgue Rich`s car made. Mine only managed 293bhp and 305lbft on a 98 STi Type R with Magnex downpipe, Powerflow exhaust and K&N panel filter sorry for bragging but still chuffed.

Andy have tried to phone you today but only had your mobile number mate. I need some advice and some prices and Johnny Gav who I know said to give you a call and also give me your number. Will you be about on Tuesday.

Maybe a bit of a party pooper, but Well lane has a reputation for being a bit on the optimistic side of the quoted power figures, Powerstaion on the conservative side. Anyone else seen thsi mentioned on scoobynet before?

Before pointing the "optimistic" finger as most people seem to do about Well Lane (and 90% of those have never even been to the place), please check out the results in "northern" of the other 24 cars that ran that day. I don't think any of them are too much over the odds.

Not having a go at you currymonster, but you should definately check out the figures.

It was a good day all round and we had several STi7s and 8s running back to back which produced an interesting comparison.

We also had a MY00 UK turbo with panel filter and decat centre and backbox that did 219bhp which is hardly "over the top"

Cheers

Rich

Sorry if my post came across that way.
I was only asking for a comparison between Well Lane & Prosport as I recently ran at Prosport and heard loads of "rumours" that you can get more at WL.
Didn't seem to stack up, so I was wondering if my fiqure was acurate.

Scoobytowers,

No it's ok, as I said, I wasn't having a go at you or curry monster. It just peaves me a bit when people put rumours in people's heads like some have obviously done to you. You've been fed duff info by biased n**heads.

IF Well Lane IS slightly high reading compared to other rollers then so be it, but on the Sunday, the rollers were the same for ALL the cars that ran. Half a dozen PPP STi7 and 8s all got around 305-325bhp which is pretty much what you'd expect. The cars that got towards the high end of this scale where the mostly the cars with PPPs and extra mods e.g. Craft's superb 326bhp.

So even worst case scenario, let me be the biggest sceptic about and say the rollers overead by 30bhp, I still got 356 which isn't bad.

BUT I DON'T BELIEVE THAT IS THE CASE AT ALL.

So comparing rolling roads is nonsense, because they are NEVER going to be exactly the same.

Harvey has done more tests than anyone I know on this to compare the various rolling roads and his results are freely available. In my experience with BOTH my cars tested back to back at G-force and Well Lane, the results were around 10-15bhp apart and one of my G-force runs was done on a much hotter day.

Rolling road shootouts are about comparing the cars on the day that are there ONLY. But I also use them to see if my hard earned cash chucked at my car has been worthwhile.

As I posted in an earlier thread, I have seen with my own eyes on numerous occasions, standard cars producing book figures at Well Lane.

My girlfriend is a member of the honda forums and at a RRday at Well Lane last year, a whole host of virtually standard/lightly modded Civic Type Rs ran and all produced figures in the 190-210bhp range (some had full decat and induction). So yet again they are about what you would expect.

At the last TTS RR day there (and I'm sure Ninnybobs will back me up here) a BOG standard MY00 UK Turbo ran 215bhp. HOW BLOODY ACCURATE DO PEOPLE WANT IT?

So can we once and for all stop this Bull about Well Lane being wildly innaccurate because it simply isn't. It MAY read slightly more than some rolling roads on some occasions, but it isn't going to be WILDLY out. I'm sure if their rollers were that wrong, Well lane would not have been in business as long as it has and Billy wouldn't be driving round in a car that cost more than most of our houses.

Cheers

Rich

No disrespect to you either Si, but

"there's no way 380s can give u enough fuel"

How do you know? Have you ever tuned a car with 380 injectors to this level? If sorry but it did, or maybe I'm mistaken and I forgot that I'd accidentally put 550s in.

If you are running the spec you are and only getting 330bhp, maybe you should be having words with your mapper? Although 350lbsft is very good and far more than mine. But if your car isn't holding boost which I seem to remember at nobles, it wasn't, then you WILL get crap power.

But on one point I agree with you - maybe you SHOULD go to Well Lane before being so sceptical. Should I put you down for WL8?

Si: I think you should go to Well Lane as soon as possible and let us know what you get. Maybe then a lot of this krap about Well Lane rollers giving high results will be kicked into touch.
I also think that with your spec your car is greatly under performing. Is there anything obviously wrong with it? Might be time to consider letting somebody that has a history of getting good results have a look at it.
Where are you based?

Please tell us all what the HP you got AT THE WHEELS. Please do not convert crank 385 HP with a formula that the rolling road guys gave you. Just tell us what the dyno read out at the wheels. Thanks.

330 BHP on a VF23 sounds good to me. It is considerably more than a lot of VF23 results.
