Translated from a french message.

Button Can be Happy

He's not french and the police is not the FIA

Like on a track

Caught at 142mph instead of 81mph on a south french highway on the road to Monaco GP. Jenson Button can be happy to be british and not french. According to the french law, the F1 driver had only to pay £500. A french driver would have lost - for a long time - his driving license. And with no driving license, no F1 license. Even if the FIA sometimes authorize a license without a driving license, a french F1 driver won't have race the Monaco GP.

Button can also thanks french police not to have the same law as the FIA. The FIA ask for £150 for each kph over the speed limit in the pit stop, with 98kph over the limit, he would have to pay £15000 to the FIA !!!!!!

Cool

Rob,

There is also now a petrol-engined 330. Autocar ran a review last week - maybe he was in that instead.

Either way, some of the new six and eight cylinder turbodiesels might make some of us revise our preconceptions - could it be the performance car engine of the future?

Cheers,

Alex

No. Rob is correct - it was the oil burner.
Hard though it is to believe...

Sorry for the name dropping, but I met Jenson in a restaurant in Monaco the day after all the papers reported this. And although it was a diesel, he wasn't going as fast as they reported.
Newspapers adjusting the facts.
