According to the french law, the F1 driver had only to pay £500. A french driver would have lost - for a long time - his driving license. And with no driving license, no F1 license. There is also now a petrol-engined 330. Autocar ran a review last week - maybe he was in that instead.

Either way, some of the new six and eight cylinder turbodiesels might make some of us revise our preconceptions - could it be the performance car engine of the future?

Sorry for the name dropping, but I met Jenson in a restaurant in Monaco the day after all the papers reported this. And although it was a diesel, he wasn't going as fast as they reported.
