from my last experience's of taking the scoob out in the snow is this time its staying on the drive was just too dodgy last time

Steering is dodgy at best....

had mine out in the snow today and the only thing it does better is pulling out of junctions. The damn thing wanted to spin on roundabouts just as bad as any car I've had Mainly due to the footprint of the tyres I suppose.

Yep - spent most of the afternoon going sideways in Glen Nevis. Find it bad braking also as ABS is a bit of a joke. Mind you I was one of only two that made the hill up to my work today.
The other one was a 1991 Fiesta with pram tyres

Well my Scoob was awesome today

Totally faultless in the snow, bags of grip (I haven't got ABS), Superb!

The AWD was awesome and grip was good in the snow, stopping however was a different matter....I managed to slide right up on a car so I had to hit the curb, one curbed to fnucked alloy

i just bought myself a type r sti P plate.

drove it in the snow and it is a bit of a animal until u wind the diff forward. i aint go no abs either. i felt solid as a rock 2day when drivin mine. loads better than a 2ltr turbo nova i got rid of 2 buy it

After some 'practicing' in a car park I can confirm that the diff lock makes a massive difference in the snow/ice! With it unlocked it takes no effort at all to induce a spin, but when it's locked it becomes virtually impossible.

wish i had my landrover discovery in this weather as im afraid of pranging the scoob, don,t like abs in the snow stopping distances are ten times longer than with a locked wheel!!

I've got a sti8, decatted and Tek3, this time last year in the snow it took me 8 hours to get home from work because I dumped my Jaguar and walked home. Tonight it only took 2 hours no problems at all, even managed to drive round the Merc who was stuck with its wheels spinning on a steep hill near my house. I have to say the car in the snow was great.

It was my first time in the snow with the scooby today, what can i say but it was superb!!!, totally spot on, best car I have ever drivern in the snow...

If you have problems in the snow in your scoob's you must not be able to drive very well!!!

I was scaring the girlfriend on the way home

Only bad thing was, I was just about to go down a big hill then looked at the big sheet of ice the whole of the way down the hill and started to reverse but all 4 wheels started spinning, So I stopped lifted the clutch up very slow and reversed very slowly out of the street then off home for tea.

MY02 WRX , No problems at all in the snow. didn`t drive so that i used the brakes that much. And if it went sideways more than i wanted it to do , lift off , and it would go back into a straingt line, In fact it was the most fun ive had gong to work , trying to get her **** to wiggle off every roundabout was good fun.

well i will admit i nearly shat my pants tonight going along a single lane byepass tonight there was a lorry going 20mph so i thought sod it i'll go around him got about half way along him when the the turbo kicked in and the back end kicked left straight under the wagon thankfully i eased off and the car snapped back straight

i am a very lucky boy

Yep, no problems in the my 03 STI whatsoever.

I would have got home faster if the people from the right at the RB let us thru!

However, the rest of the journey was spent mostly booting it wherever I can in first and second, and getting it to snake its way along the road. Absolute hoot. The BMW in front was tip toeing its way along instead.

Even managed to try a bit of scandinavian flick when I got onto my estate. hehehehe

I love this Scoob!

Driving into Derby today and what did I see. a large EMPTY car park covered in snow

Thank god for that as tonight I knew what to expect out of the car, took it steady, the roads round here were bad tonight but plenty of fun to be had

Take care these slide like a b1tch, find an empty carpark and floor the ******.

Kinda depends what your old car was, doesn't it? Your ability (or otherwise) to control any car in the snow depends first and foremost on how well its tyres can cope, not what the transmission configuration is.

Because most Imprezas in this country are fitted with wide summer sports tyres that don't work on snow, it follows that most Imprezas aren't very nice to drive on snow. Put on some tyres that are designed for the conditions and the car will be much nicer to drive. Soft gravel rally tyres can work amazingly well, while proper winter tyres like Nokian WR's are pretty good too.

As for the "braking... just doesn't happen" comment, that's a function of the tyres and ABS. On the right tyres and without ABS, you'd be amazed how quick the car will stop.

No. Totally different concept.

ie 50/50 split?
A locked differential will by definition split its torque equally. However, this is not the same as having a differential with a 50/50 inherent torque distribution.

A locked centre diff will be better under braking and under traction in a straight line as it'll equalise the traction across both axles, but it'll be much more prone to understeer both on and off the power.

Only had my scoob for a few weeks so I thought I would go out and test in the snow today...

Car looks minted all dirty and covered in snow but decided best option was to tuck her into bed and pull out the "Old Cavi SRi" with modified handbrake, never fails to impress or bring a smile to your face...

Guys don't moan about your 4 wheel drive Imprezas, I suffered the ignominy of having to ask for a push up a hill not once but twice. Each time it took 5 people pushing with 1 sat in the boot to try and get some traction out of my goddamn ******* auto boxed, traction controlled, fat tyred, rear wheel drive Beemer.

So if anyone was sat trying to get to Barton Le Clay apologies for inconveniencing you and to those 10 kind folks who helped me, including a girl, many thanks.

Irony is last year went the this happened I was lording it in my Grand Cherokee

So it was you causing the hold up! I turned round and went via Pirton etc. Guessed the hill down to the Live and Let Live would be a nightmare and the other up sections along there. Glad you got home in one piece though.

Took me 4 hours from Harlow in my RB5 being sensible 99% of the time and then drifting sideways for theother 1% when safe to do so :-)

Got to agree with greasemonkey on this one its all down to the tyres. If you have just standard road tyres or low profile tyres you will never get the grip you want.

I have sometimes thought about getting a spare set of wheels, fitted with good tyres just to use for these sort of conditions.

can not beet me scoob in the snow had to go out to play on a big car park grate fun. love it when ya go past some one stuck on a hill or some think lol
