Trading up from MY02 WRX (before it loses any more in value), to an STI.

Demo's available for £1- £2k cheaper than £24995 dealer price for new vehicle.

Anyone had any problems having bought a demo?? Feel I should go for the new one but if I'm going to save £2k for 2000 miles on the clock it might be worthwhile?

Advice appreciated.

I suppose the only problem with a demo is that it may have been thrashed by testpilots. I drove my first WRX at the weekend on an unsupervised test drive and as you would imagine I gave it some stick.

Anyway the thing I immediately noticed was that gearbox was awful 4th - 5th and even the dealer admitted it was a clinker and needed to go in the garage(His words not mine).

If you can afford a new car, at least you will know how it's been driven.

Pay no more than £23k for new. Problemchild reckons his dealer has one for £19995 mentioned here
Get a price from www.tins.co.uk before you go to the dealer, and speak to at least 3 of them.

if you buy a new one you will know how its been treated, you can 'run it in'. When I went for a test drive the car only had 300 miles on it and I didn't stay below 3000rpm.....

Some people say "it's got a warranty, they will repair it if it goes bang" but I personally wouldn't want a car that hadn't been run in and thrashed before it was ready for it!!! I also wouldn't want a car which needed an engine rebuild inside the 1st year (obviously, that is probably rare but I wouldn't want to take the risk).

John Felstead went for a test drive of an STi and it was running on 95RON and audibly detting - I pity the sucker that bought *that* ex-demo!!!!

Matt.

Yorkie,

Many thanks for that - I was coming to the conclusion that as soon as the chaps find out I am girl they won't talk!!!! I am sure that's not the case.

What part of Yorkshire are you from - I come from Barnsley originally

Cneers everyone. I'll go for the new one I think. Considering 19" wheels......

I'll do my best not to get robbed.

Been offered £15k first off for the WRX and £16k if I took a demo with mods off their hands. Time to ditch the WRX me thinks.....
Just have to decideon whether to go Black again with these Flitter wheels or Blue and Gold.

Debate........

Yorkie,

I haven't got a Impreza just yet - I am looking to buy a WRX wagon as I have a couple of dogs. Although I was going to spice it up with a PPP.

I'd definitely go for the new one.
Even whe I test drove an FQ300, the owner of the dealership didn't let the engine warm up properely, (about one mile before booting it).

I'd even choose a car with 5k on the clock and one careful owner than a demo with 1k (50 careless test pilots)!
Buy new and you'll know that it has been treated right.

Dealer has a demo with 48 miles on the clock, wants £24k and will put a new set of 18" tyres and Gold Oz wheels on for that price. He keeps old 17's.

Seems reasonable?

sounds ok to me

you would be the second owner of course

we hear more and more of the 0 mile demo car now i think its a way of dealers to take there quota of cars for the year before the year ends
if you trade it back to a dealer they would take it as you being the first owner , selling private you could give them a bargining tool
dont be to fussed about dealer keeping the 17s there only fetching about 400 quid brand new with the tyres

imo fair deal
