Has anybody used the VF29 or VF30? Does anybody know much about them? Apparently they are being used in Australia at the moment on scoobies. I hear they are as good as the TD04 down low and keep on powering up top too. Anyone know?

isnt the vf 29 just the replacement for the vf 28, meaning it is the smallest of standard fit vf series turbos, standard on sti 4s, 5s and 6s?

If so, it will pull well low down, but will run out of steam and not flow much for high power. Drivability on the road will be nice, but track use will be flawed.

I would rather go for a hybrid vf 22, these can be made to be ok low down, but awesome mid to high up. Brand new I am sure vf series turbos are nearly all the same price. Even a vf 23 would be better i would have thought.

 

You could be right Adam. That's why I posted here to see if anyone knew anything about them, coz I guy from OZ, not a technical fellow, here on holidays, said that in OZ alot of Scooby owners were starting to fit these and they were good down low and good up top. However he was just stating what he had heard. Just wanted to see if anyone could verify this, It appears it's not true, the top end side of it, that is.

I've driven cars with VF22, 23, 28 and 29s. I'm not sure if the STi VF28 is the same as what you can buy off the shelf, but it's top end is quite good.

Are you going to exceed 300hp? If not, go the 28 or 29 cause there is a big difference in spool up times.

After about 18psi the VF22 and 23 really do have the legs though.

The above appears to be the case. If you want to go beyond 300hp, you won't want a VF29 or 30, too small. Ver. 2 STI uses TD-05 turbo, more lag but have high potential for power without changing turbo. Ver. 3 STI (my car) uses VF 23 less lag, must change turbo if want to exceed 330 hp. Ver. 4, 5, 6..... turbo get smaller and smaller because they want to give better throttle response and faster turbo spool up thus less lag, this is the upside. Downside will of course be the ability to produce more power than standard, 300 hp would consider as optimistic gain if i'm not wrong, if not less.
