i was wonderin, being a newbie what dump valve to fit to my 98my classic? any suggestions?

 

Depends on whether you want one similar to your OEM dump valve (recirculating) or if you want a "ppppppsssssssssshhhhhhhtttt" VTA type...

 

Silly question maybe M444GY, but is there anything wrong with the dumpvalve that's already fitted to your car?

 

nothin wrong with the one on it at the mo but would like a bit more of a pppppppssssssshhhhhht as it was put. what good vta dvs would u recomend?

Sorry, no can do. While you are using the standard Subaru (or any other form of MAF based ECU), in my view there is no such thing as a "good" vent to atmopshere dumpvalve, and thus I am unable to recommend one.

These ECU's only work within their correct design parameters with a recirculating valve, and thus these are the only sort you will find me advocating, unless you are running an engine management system that doesn't rely on an airflow meter in the early part of the induction tract.

 

There are 2 schools of thought with VTA dv's. One being they are fine, the other they are not. This is due to the ECU expecting to get the air back in the air box from the recirculating DV but it doesn't. TBH it's up to you whether you want a psssshhhhttt or not.

As above, I tend to agree that it is probably not a good idea.

An induction kit also gives a similar sound but also has issues of poor filtration and MAF damage so not recommended unless you have a highly modified car.

In my opinion save your money for full decat exhaust(can hear turbo spool and the great flat 4 sound) - more power and better noise.

 

Yeah. The ECU is fuelling according to the airflow meter readings, so in this respect it's not confused.

The trouble is that thanks to some of the metered air being dumped out of the system, there's less actually in the cylinders than the ECU thinks there is, hence unburnt fuel going all the way through and igniting in the turbo
