Mods please leave here for now as it is a matter of urgency!

Please somebody help me. I am having PPP and Prodrive spring kit fitted tomorrow on my MY03 STI Type UK tomorrow. I am currently insured with Bell Direct, but they will not cover me with the above installation. Therefore my policy will be cancelled tomorrow.

I am now having a real hard time finding an insurance company who will cover me. I am currently waiting for Subaru Insure to come back and tell me if a quote they've given me will be accepted. However, if it is not, I will have to find another company. Does anyone know of a good company who will do this?

BTW I'm 28 and married.

Have you tried Liverpool Victoria? I believe they are pretty good with mods etc... There are plenty of threads in the "Insurance" section on here..

Yeah, unfortunately they won't insure under 30s on the STI.

Dunno then m8, Im with Tesco (Im 28 with a UK spec)..

Try Liverpool Victoria.

I was with Tesco but when I added new exhaust and alloy wheels my premium went up by £200. I phoned Liverpool Victoria and they didn't ask about modifications. When I told them that the car was modified they said it doesn't matter still the same quote!
Also I know some people on here have had problems with cover but thats only on imported cars.

I'm with Admiral and I am 28 with an STi8. Its not PPP'd (yet ) but they had no problems with upgrading my cover to include it when I enquired about it last month.

I don't understand this...Admiral are Bell Direct. Now when I told them I wanted to upgrade my insurance to the PPP they refused to insure me.

 

Arrggh! Just had a call from Endsleigh insurance who have found me insurance from Cornhill and they reckon for a standard STI it's gonna cost £863!!! Now there going to the underwriters to see the actual premium with PPP.

 

Very strange.

Although I can believe it.

When I tried Elephant and Bell Direct (Both part of Admiral) they both came back with quotes over £2000 , Admiral was at least half that amount.

 

£863 is less than I am paying for my STi8!!!!

 

I know this sounds crazy, but it might work out cheaper to insure it with them as a standard sti then upgrade afterwards, I think sometimes it works out cheaper to do it that way with some insurance companies, just highlights how much we get had over by them.. possibly?

Don't really wanna risk that...fraud and all that.

 

My Classic PPP was with RAC, no real addition in premium for ppp and I had full documents I was happy with. Admiral and Elephant refused to cover the car (and yes I'm over 30)

WRX I meant to actually insure before you have the PPP put on, wasnt suggesting you commit fraud.

Sorry Jay_bee, mis-read your post. Yeah, but I don't want to run the risk of insuring it as standard and then trying to upgrade and finding out afterwards that they won't cover me. Like my current situation

 

I suggest ringing them back and trying another person. Say to them you've already found another company that'll insure you but wish to stay with them as it's easier, but that you have no problem with going elsewhere. I did this with some mods and they said "Ok, just this once!" kinda thing.

Totally depends on who your talking to on the other end of the phone

Let us know what she comes back with for the PPP mate....might be giving them a call myself if they are cheap!

Have you tried Axa or Axa direct?

I insured my scoob with them at 25 and they weren't too bad at £1200.

Thanks for your help guys! Finally got through to someone sensible on Tesco and they have quoted me £1289. They haven't got it down as PPP but they have got it as a mod.

AFAIK, when you add a mod with Tesco, they take the percentage power gain and multiply your premium by that;

£1000pa insurance, increase from 300 to 330 BHP is 10% increase, so new insurance is £1100.

Try detailing your mods as individual items with the total percentage power increase to the insurance companies. This might be better than declaring PPP to them, and you aren't commiting fraud either.

Have you paid for your PPP? If not, I'd suggest that you don't do the mod - even though it's great - as the cost for the performance gain is very high (insurance £ + PPP conversion £).

For what it's worth, Tesco were pretty reasonable when I got a PPP upgrade mid policy (on an 03 WRX) but then loaded my renewal by several hundred pounds and increased my excess to £600.

I went with L&V but they won't insure by fiancee, but then again she's 29 and only passed her test in June (however Tesco actually reduced the % insurance increase when I had a PPP fitted and she's only been driving for a couple of months - !!!)

 

Homer Lawtley - I probably didn't phrase it very well, but I did tell them it was the PPP, but the underwriters said they had to put it down as a mod rather than a PPP as they didn't have it on their system.

Alex - Cheers for your help mate! I did try Keith Michaels, but they said they wouldn't be able get near the figure I had. Although they did say they'd try for me in the morning. Good people their mind you, very helpful. BTW Christian at Keith Michaels sends his regards. Apparently he met you a year ago.

jmk - PPP price and insurance suits me fine. Especially as it keeps my warranty intact. Also I'd read some of the threads recently about PPP power increase/stability vs other products. Rather be safe than sorry. I did try LV but they won't touch anyone under 30 on the New ages.

Also one last word, thanks to John at Subaru Insured who although couldn't get me insured cause I didn't have a garage, helped me by giving me loads of phone numbers and basically trying to get me some insurance. I suppose you guys need a good thumbs once in a while, especially with the recent stick.

Yep I'm with tesco... down as a mod but I'm 36.. still it was £1200
Due to comeing froma Company car and having no NCD and a 3m ban in Jan 2000... oops!
