There is a lack of decent Carbon Fibre products for Subarus
I was therefore wondering if there was anywhere where you could get training on how to produce this type of product ?

Many thanks for your help
Cheers

Not something you want to get into IMHO.

To do it properly, with well finished parts you need to invest heavily in tooling and autoclaves etc.

Subbing parts out may be an option, and there are some companies that specialise in the sort of numbers you would be looking at I would think (5-10 parts for instance).

If you want some more info drop me a mail and I can at least point you in the right direction of a CF producer/material supplier.

From my experience, everyone wants carbon fibre products but are not prepared to pay the money for them...

More often than not its for looks, so wet lay is acceptable but it's really just a carbon skin, even so, it's still expensive.

However, if someone wants proper Pre Preg carbon fibre thats vacuum formed then they will have to pay the money IMO.

I know someone who will make anything you like in Pre Preg, it's as good as it will get quality wise, but you are looking at over £1000 for a bonnet & you will need around 10 to make it worth his while with the moulds etc.

The quality of the work will be flawless, he has a well proven track record in making parts for F1 & motorsport teams etc etc.

However - to your average punter he couldnt tell the difference between a wet lay & pre preg bonnet other than the weight & that isnt enough to justify double the price in his opinion.

The trouble with this place is everyone wants something for nothing, so it makes it doubley hard.

If you speak to MONEY, he has a good contact who have already made pretty much every panel in carbon fibre, plus copies of kits in carbon (C-West etc) & the prices are pretty good too

Hi Fulham71,

Im a composite engineer myself and own a prepreg composite company in scotland and ive done this sort of thing 100's of times. If you are wanting help and advice on how to go about making your own subaru parts and best materials to use for each application, just drop me an email and il give you free advice on how to go about it. Carbon fibre is an expensive thing just to jump straight into (especially prepreg), so hopefully i can save you alot of time and money and advise you on the best route to take. I'll be able to advise you on anything composite related.

just drop me a PM if you have any questions and il help you out!

James
