What MY are the cars involved?
Last time my car went for service MY00, the mechanic told me that there is a known problem with the box which causes reverse to become a b**tard to get in. Something to do with a nut and the back of the gearbox? Had me baffled????????

if you mean that it will not go into reverse in terms of it feeling like something is stopping it as opposed to it grinding, try slipping it into 1st gear first, sometimes you need to bring the clutch to biting point and then pop her into reverse.

Try letting the clutch pedal up slightly whilst engaging reverse, works every time for me.

reverse is not synchronized.

often times you need to go back into 1st
roll forward 1" or so..
then try again
this allows the gears to line up
and makes it a smooth transition into R

cheers

I've found the same as Jamie.
Roll forward slightly in 1st, then slips into reverse.
