This is a relly stupid question but, I am looking for a quiet perfomance exhaust and have read the previous threads on the Magnex exhaust systems.

How can an exhaust be both quiet and increase perofrmance? I thought that is why the standard exhaust decreased performance because it was engineered to be quiet ?

Has anyone ever tried a JETEX exhaust system ?

I think 'quiet' is relative in this sense and it's the difference between the standard setup and a straight-through 4" drainpipe. I've just had a Scorpion back box and centre section fitted. The noise in the cabin is certainly more noticeable but it's not too intrusive. Pick-up does seem to be better in 2nd and 3rd gear but I'll need to run it for a while to see if that is the case.

Silencing doesn't have to be by "strangulation" The Magnex BB is probably quieter than others due to hole size in the perforations in the core (the larger the hole the more surface area of silencer packing the gasses and hence noise "see"). Also the type of packing in an exhaust can have a marked effect. The standard BB silences using a mechanical baffle system which is not straight through and uses no packing. The Magnex is totally straight thro' so has no real restriction to flow.

I think I've got what you mean, if the exhaust gasses can flow straight thro then the turbo can start to spin up quicker thus increasing performance.
That begs the question would these Back boxes effect the cars warranty, or would I have to fit the Pro Drive box to keep that intact ?

I'm glad there's people on this board who know what they are talking about or I'd be completely buggered

I have a Remus backbox on my car and it is quieter than standard....

The breathing is however much better than with the standard box, it revs much more happily.

Re Quiet exhausts

I am toying with the idea of an OMP GrpN system for Two reasons.
1. Cheap, about £300 for centre + back box
2. 89 db noise level

The downside is mild steel.

Any comments?

It really depends on your dealer regarding the warranty issue, some will even fit the system for you , the prodrive system is only available as part of the PPP and fitting it on it's own would probably have the same effect on your warranty. Also the way the warranty is worded the dealer would only refuse the work if the fault could be directly attributed to your mods, ie:- if you fitted the BB and the wheel bearing went bandy - no problem, on the other hand if the turbo decided to spew itself down the exhaust the dealer (or IM) may try to wriggle out this claim I would speak to your dealer about it

Try Jap Imports in Oldham tell them I sent you coz they have a brill system that is quite superior to all that I've seen so far and that includes Graham Goodes, Scoobysport, etc...great price and good guys !
