Anyone know whether an sti5 full exhaust system will fit a 95 UK Turbo. If so does anyone know if it is a bigger bore and will improve performance and sound.

I'm a Scooby Newbie and need help as i'm still learning.

Downpipe is the same, centre section has a resonator on the STi and a 2nd cat on the UK car. The backboxes are cosmetically different but equally restrictive

STi backbox is good if you want the single pipe look without the hardcore noise.

Otherwise I'd recommend aftermarket. Oh, and don't expect a performance increase if you're only changing the backbox; downpipe has biggest restriction.

Richard

Thanks for the offer but I think i'll now go aftermarket as I want the car grumble and i'm looking for performance increase. If you've got a less restrictive downpipe I may be interested.

Dowser, hiya. If the STi mid has no cat than is there no benefit in replacing this part with an aftermarket product ie is it only worth replacing the DP(which I've done) and the backbox (which I run standard)Cheers Deep.

The rear box is not particularly restrictive it is the downpipe that is the most restrictive bit! - this is primarily due to the CAT.

As I'm sure most people are aware the police have the power to fine you up to £3000 and give 3 points on the license if they stop you for a spot check without a Cat - rare I know - but it does happen.

The best aftermarket exhaust for the money appears to be the Scoobymania system at £580 inc Vat - this is fairly quiet though.

A cheaper option is Mongoose - but this has a restrictive downpipe. You could also opt for HKS which is far more expensive and is not really proper stainless - it is - but will rust over time (a diff grade of stainless - cheapskates!)

Sorry Fangoria - but I beg to differ

On a my00 PPP'ed car with SS d/p and resonator removed; swapping the backbox between OE and Prodrive makes what feels like a 10% difference to performance.

What is true is that you will not notice a performance change with backbox swaps unless you've already swapped the downpipe - it *is* the most restrictive part of the system.

imho

Ok - it does seem different - but you wont notice it on a dyno - it is the dwonpipe that gives the torque gain lower down in the rev range and allows a fraction more boost!

It probably sounds different that gives you the impression its faster - but a backbox swap will liberate only a few horses at most and perhaps a bit more lower down the rev range
