Need to get a new baby seat for our little one (9months old).
Any recommendations?

Yes ive just brought one for our 9 mths old from subaru.

Its a Britax one with the isofix jobby and it even says Subaru on the strap

 

Gotta Britax Club Class Extra for my little'n. Apparently there are only two in the range, this & the first class that will fit due to the 'alternative' method (MY00). It'll take up to 4yrs, although the Recaro one will probably replace it soon!

 

That will be the SEAT AROSA then.

 

The Subaru Isofix one is just a Britax Duo Isofix with Subaru logos on it. You can get it significantly cheaper if you shop around.

It's a very good seat, even if you don't want the Isofix mountings - but if you don't have an MY03 (or intend to get one, or newer) then you're paying quite a premium for the mounts.

But if you DO have an MY03, the mounts make it so much easier to mount/unmount, and it's very secure once fitted.

 

Any pics of that Subaru branded one?

 

Currently have a Britax in my MY00. Was looking at the Recaro seat but I'm not convinced that using a seat without it's own belts is a good idea for younger children (9-18 mths). Any views/experiences?

Our baby is due in June and I'm a bit confused about the whole baby seat business!

We have a UK MY00, can somebody give me some advice about what I should / should not be looking for.

Whatever you get don't buy the recaro seat. I saw an article in the auto express when they tested seats and it had the worst protection for a side impact.

 

Got the subaru one in an '03 Wagon. Easy to fit and unfit and very secure once in there. Highly recommended, it is just a rebadge and you can probably get it cheaper but I went for the path of least resistance and ordered when I bought the car.

Another decent one if no ISOFIX is the Britax First Class. Reason I say this is that it fits LOADS of cars well. A lot of seats don't fit correctly if the buckle side of the belt is mounted on a strap as they can foul it and it could unbuckle itself in a crash (called buckle crunching I believe). This seat has 2 ways of mounting to car one of which is great for avoiding this. It's the only seat we could find that fit OK in wifey's Astra (no mocking please it's a co-car). Only downside is adjusting the straps is an absolute bitch compared to the Subaru seat.

Best advice I could give - go to a good shop that knows what they are talking about and will fit it for you. If you have got ISOFIX or may have before jnr grows out of the seat then get one with ISOFIX.

got a subaru one when i bought my sti,got it for trade price-very good seat especially with isofix,i feel safer now my baby is safer
ian at stan palmers will do you a good deal-remember sidc discount of halfords have a non branded version. halfords are actually quite good and have a wide range of baby seats you can try in your car as well as a baby seat specialist

Getting a second seat because we have two cars and I'm fed up moving it between the two.

Originally had one of these 3 in 1 pushchair/pram/baby seat jobbies (Bebe Comfort). Absolutely useless! The pushchair is too big and heavy, the baby seat is not secure and the whole lot just sits in the garage - only use it for local walking these days.

I have the Britax First Class. It's a good seat but very bulky. Fine in the back of our Saab 9-5 but in smaller cars it brings the child's feet very close to the back rest of the passenger seat.

I looked at the Recaro for the same reason as most I would imagine.... looks. I want something physically smaller than the Britax that might also last a bit longer. I think that I'll probably wait another 6 mths or so until the baby (10 mths at the mo) is a bit older.

Wuss, Britax First Class (Club Class Extra no longer available) will fit perfectly & does from newborn to 4 yrs. We've got 2 Club Class Extra's as they are the only ones to fit both the Scoob & the wife's 306!

Took my daughter (11mths) out the other day with some friends, they had a similar seat to the Recaro using only the seat belt and she was not happy to say the least! Not enough support from the belt so she kept leaning forward. I wuldn't consider one of these until at least 18mths.

This is bloody typical. I'm a member of Which on-line and guess which seat they recommend - Bebe Comfort Elios Safe Side [0 - 18 months]!!! In the same category, they compared it to the Britax Rock-a-Tot Deluxe which I wouldn't buy on principle due to the appalling name! This did not fair to well...

I don't think I'm going to listen to Which anymore...
