Question

Looking for some advice on a starting problem.
In cold weather (below freezing) the following happens.
Turn on to ignition - wait 5 secs till fuel primes then turnover. All I get is a clicking noise (loud). The engine does not turn over at all. After quite a few attempts with gaps in between I will get 3 or 4 clicks and then the engine turns over and starts. Not what I've had in any previous car where engine does turnover but not start.
Any ideas anyone? MY97 Turbo - no mods.
Cheers
Alasdair

it sounds like a bad connection in the starter motor to me. change the starter and see. or the battery is going do a drop test and if it is under about 8 to 9 volts then change it

I've had this problem in a few cars ....always in cold weather...always been the battery on the way out (the battery has enough power/current/whatever to run lights, clock, radio etc, but not enough to turn the starter motor). They dont make 'em like they used to (so I hear) and if they're gonna go it's usually in cold weather.

Wink

Thanks all
Battery was the problem. Changed and as good as new. Notice the difference on starting even though not too cold just now.
