Quarter Mile Times - What to expect?
Been thinking about how cars develop and put down their power. According to Autospeed, the only reliable measure with any consistency is power, not torque, in terms of quarter mile results.
Andy F provided some figures...
...for a car producing around 550bhp.
According to the calculators I can get a hold of these are very good figures.
So what do we think that 555bhp should get for a car at around 1400kg fully loaded. And what should I get moving up to 580bhp at similar weight for that matter, or even 620bhp?

Just a taste of what you (we) can expect from that sort of power. Kev Sharp has similar power and torque from his 2.0 Escort Cossie, weighing in at a hefty 1410kg it has just been tested at brunters using datatron timing equipment..........
0-60 in 2.94
0-100 in 6.3
0-150 in 13.92
1/4 mile in 10.8 at 134.7

A Cossie is not a Scoobie (assuming you are even talking about a scoobie), different drag co-efficients for a start, would suspect the Cossie would be faster at higher speed due to the shape anyway. Also what about the different gearing ratios, diff losses etc etc?
You are not comparing apples with apples my friend! Better off looking at same age / shape / power scoobies and see how they compare, but even that won't help much as they components used to generate the power will probably be different and may introduce other factors.
Build the beast, blast the track and tell us how you do, we can then all go "oohh that's about what I thought it would be", a lot easier with hind sight!!
In all seriousness though - have a look at the dyno radouts on here then see what 1/4 times etc these boys were getting at Scoobyshout out etc. It won't be precise but it will give you an idea.
