Question

Guys and gals..

Recently put a complete decat system on my impreza... SS Downpipe and HKS Super drager (mid+BB)... sounds lovely, picks up better...

But, in the four thousand miles since the last service, I have cained 2 litres of oil, is this right?? Anyone else experienced this??

I get the smell of oil on start-up of the car, but it only happens on ignition and is fine after a few seconds ...

Whats your experiences on this?? Does this sounds bad???

Cheers, Alex

Cool

Hi Alex,

What oil is being used, it shouldn't get through that much oil no matter how you cane it! If you can smell it there may be a leak somewhere, ie from the sump plug, it may be that it is leaking out a little but the splash tray will prevent you from seeing a leak. I'd take it to the dealer or let someone have a look at it. It'll more than likely be something stupid, I would seriously doubt that it was anything more!

I presume that when you checked the oil the car was on a level surface and oil was warm??

With full de-cat exhausts the fumes will smell differently anyway (snifff..mmm..aahhh-I love that smell )which could make you think it was oil perhaps

Red face

Nito - sorry I should explain ..

The HKS only went on 700 miles ago, so its not to do with that.. likely to smell more getting through...

Just seems to have burnt a lot since the last service thats all..

Exclamation

its offical, oil in the zorst fumes... going to monitor for the next 3 weeks upto the next service then maybe a new engine. Meantime I am trying a different oil, Mobil-1 5/40W as (now) recommended by Subaru, rather than the shell helix plus.

ho hum..

Alex

DrEvil,

When you are driving along steady and drop a gear and floor it do you see a puff of smoke in your rear view mirror?
On my last Scooby MY98 I was told the seals in the turbo were worn. It drunk oil from then on too.

Scotty.

Thumbs down

DrEvil,

Good luck. I've been waiting 2 days now for IM to contact my dealer to see if a clutch reservoir heat shield actually exists It's not on the micro fishy thingy.

It was on when I had had a new turbo fitted but now is not. And... I am told it cannot fall off even without the bolt

Those pesky aliens must be abducting my car for tests or something

Scotty
