Ok, not yet but this boy is going to be trouble

We ran some AP22 datalogs on John Bank's std internals 2.5 today.
The results looked very promising indeed. Normally I subtract 0.2 secs from the AP 1/4 mile times as there is no allowance for 'roll out' ie the 12" or so that the car moves before the timing beam is triggered at a drag meet. This adjustment has aligned my AP22 times with recent Crail and Elvington results.
So, considering that we also had 2 people on board (worth another 0.2 sec) the times were almost identical to my own best results Not bad for a damp surface

0 - 100 in 8.75 ain't to shabby either !!

The first set of numbers are from the same car when it was a 2.0 running approx 330 bhp.

UK Impreza Approx 330 bhp/310 lb-ft
60 ft 2.95s 31.3mph
330 ft 6.61s 66.4mph
1/8 Mile 9.48s 89.2mph
1/4 Mile 13.82s 102.5mph

0-60MPH 5.53s
0-100MPH 11.82s

UK Impreza Approx 430 bhp 400lb-ft
Run 1
60 ft 2.13s 37.4mph
330 ft 5.45s 72.6mph
1/8 Mile 8.05s 96.8mph
1/4 Mile 12.12s 124.9mph

0-60MPH 3.97s
0-100MPH 8.75s

UK Impreza Approx 430 bhp 400lb-ft
Run 2
60 ft 2.25s 40.3mph
330 ft 5.53s 71.2mph
1/8 Mile 8.20s 96.9mph
1/4 Mile 12.29s 124.9mph

0-60MPH 4.16s
0-100MPH 9.01s

3rd gear 40 – 90 mph
Start Speed 40.0mph
mph s bhp wheels
50.0 0.93 241
60.0 1.77 299
70.0 2.64 336
80.0 3.62 342
90.0 4.83 316

Quality!! Nice to read about some realistic figures and times instead of the recent 'pluck out of the air' figures..

So... John, how far into this are you? do you think you will break your target?? do you think Andy's record will go

Well done John & Andy, excellent results - not long before you hit the 11's now

Andy can you estimate what power will be required to put a 1470kg below 10 0-100mph?

cheers,
callum

Johns launches were better than mine, he set the faster time, my one is the slower of the two !!
We had an interesting comparison (race ) with Steve's Sti 5 type R which was recently dyno'd at 406 bhp. I was in the type r with T-uk, JB was in his car with steve In a roll on from any speed the 2.5 just pulled out an immediate lead of 3-4 car lengths, the 2.0 seemed to 'almost' hold its own from 5500 rpm upwards, not surprising I suppose as they run the same turbo.

Andy.

That was a bit of fun today. (Scientific testing under lab conditions)

Certainly showed the potential for Johns car.

Also the definate suitability of the TD05/06/20g in normal driving conditions.

We were driving as normal weren't we mmm hh. mmm!

Just as a matter of interest.

What record, will John potentialy break.

Can't see in your new profile.

11.66 Steve

We need to test your car with the AP22 one day, bit short of time to do both them today, especially as I was having so much fun driving your car

Unhappy

Andy,

You said that my 60ft was bad

That 0-100time is so fast, and so is the topspeed

On mine before the last bit of mapping it was:

0-60 4,07sec
0-100 9,32sec

330ft 5,16sec
1/8 7,83@ 92,71mph
1/4 12,08@ 116,67mph

Cool

DW,

quite sure JB can accept defeat

I just wish you would get a result to beat andy's 1/4 record before he sells his car. then I think the challenge would be back on and everyone would see what else he has in his bag of tricks, which is far from empty. we have just seen what he can do with standard internals .phase 2 was a quickish project in timescale, phase 3 was just mad . sworn to secrecy so you will just have to guess

I suppose it is easier and safer to wait until his car is down the road though

What is a realistic 60' target for my car on Goodyear F1s on a dry stickier surface, with an organic clutch and standard suspension?

John, all year my 60ft times have varied between 1.8 and 2.2, average at TOTB was 1.9ish i think.

Good result BTW, all your posting is doing is making me more and more annoyed that i sold my 2.5 block!

T-Uk, convince Andy to send the AP22 down and i will get it on Davids car over Christmas, and see what it can do as a comparitor to Johns figures above. If time permits i will put it on mine, again as a comparitor. Shold give a good indication of what it will do when he finally takes it to an event with no last minute problems.

I just thought that i could do better,as Andy said that my 60ft at 1,87sec was bad,i even thought i was bad ,as i can see on the US bbs that they do from 1,5-1,7sec.

Maybe my time wasn´t as bad as i thought

So with practice I might get 0.2 to 0.3 off it, especially if it is dry?

My target is about another 20 BHP and <12s 1/4.

Removing the MAF sensor should speed up gearchanges by removing hiccups, water injection should get a bit more power, as should a freer flowing filter. Then I have the option of fitting a clipped turbine wheel.

What these numbers taught me is that with a modest peak power figure you can still get a reasonable time if your average power through the run is high (my power curve is fairly flat from 5000-7000 RPM so I am always working around peak power rather than dropping back on a gearchange). The area under the curve tells the story more than the modest peaks I think. Makes me reluctant to necessarily fit a larger turbo, and also backs up Andy's experience of still managing 11.8ish with a TD05 with far less power than his TD06.

steven,

the problem is that andy can't afford to see his title go until his car is away

he has already bought most of the major bits for "project loon" which will eat any scoob . the last thing his rather small ego could accept , would be having the second fastest scoob in the UK.

I really do not see him sending the AP22 until his car is sold

are there any 1/4 days coming up down your way?

edit to add a g

I can send my AP22 over for you to play with, if covering the shipping costs still stands.....and I get it back within 6 weeks (by which time my *superior* ej25 motor should be in....maybe )

I guess that must be the project that we all know about, because of course, Andy doesn't keep any secrets.

Subaru engine with rear diff bolts straight on, wheels bolted directly to gearbox and diff

I look forward to seeing it, I assume it's along the lines of what was talked about earlier in the year.
