Have anyone ever seen what the inlet temperature is after the intercooler when not chipèt vs chipèt.
Iám running 1,5 bar on my 99`.standart(218ps)
do you thing that`s a promblem with standard intercooler?

He-he - then I doubt you've only got 218ps

1.5 bar on a euro spec car seems a little extreme - what are you doing about safe fuelling?

Most running this sort of boost would also have an upgraded intercooler....and a different ecu to ensure it's all safe. How did you get to 1.5 bar?

Are your internals still standard?

I suspect that if you're running 1.5bar.....the intercooler is the last of your problems.

I don't know how you've achieved this, but the standard fuel system will be struggling big time, assuming that it's been re-mapped the ignition should be ok, if not, watch out for det'. Pistons, and rods will very likely let go, and the turbo is going to be well outside it's flow map, let alone that poor little baring.

As for the intercooler, I would guess your temps to be hitting in excess of 65deg'c....very hot.

An uprated top, or front mount will help with the intake temps, but won't help your pistons, etc'.

Mark.

i am peaking at 1,5 bar.
I have installed a FCD.+ bleedvalve.
I run 98 octane.
I think it puts out around 280 ps.
standard 218 ps.
it do not run lean it has been testet.

What's an "FCD"? And what's your held boost?

I guess the bleed valve will give crap overboost control, which might explain the 1.5 peak.

What is a reaonable held boost level with stock internals/turbo?

Denmark,

Anything over 1.2bar on a uk/euro spec Impreza and you really are asking for trouble, you'll more than likely hole your pistons+damage your turbo/rods/bearings etc....

Are you sure you don't mean 1.15bar, 1.5bar is just plain ludicrous on a standard engine and turbo. Even if it's not running lean...you'll be generating massive amounts of heat!!

I'd turn the boost down to a more sensible 1.15-1.2bar before it all ends in tears!!

How long have you been running like this?

Nito

Dowser...FCD is a fuel cut defencer, a little HKS box which bypasses the stock cars safety cut out which is an overboost protection that cuts in when boost reaches a certain point, the standard fuel cut varies from car to car, anything from 1.2-1.25bar usually (on my MY98 it comes in around 1.25bar). By bypassing this you can run over 1.2bar (which isn't recommendable anyway!) without the engine cutting the fuel. It's a recipe for disaster particularly when used with a bleed valve as there is nothing to protect sudden peaks of overboost!

Yeah J, but how long does it take you to get to 125mph?!!!!

What kind of expense is required to be able to run > 1.4 bar safely over an extended period (years, not months!)? I guess the drivetrain requires expense too....

Thanks, Richard

Unhappy

I have now measured the inlet temperatur, when i have been driving hard and it is not over 50degree c.
The only thing that seems to be a problem is the clutch.
I can smell it after hard driving.
try to measure your
time to 125mph at the speedo.

My UK94 runs at a hold of 1.3bar. There is no peak as the APEXI boost controller looks after that side of things. The fuel controller manages the fuel flow. BUT I still can't run above that appartently as the IC can not cool the inlet temp enough to stop it pinking its nutz off over 1.3 bar.

And thats running SUL with Octane booster to see how much it would run wihout pinking.

It was set up professionally (DP in Warrington) and they were unhappy running more than 1.3 even with the Cosworth pistons.

Just a note ~ I blew a piston running 23 PSI peaking off the end of my guage (25PSI).

IMHO the stock pistons are made of chocolate and melt quite easily

Its an expensive thing to put right once you've holed a piston......believe me !

Cool

Even on a hot day and giving it loads , inlet temp doesn't go over 43 deg c . Might have something to do with the water injection I run .
On Bob Isles car yesterday I saw temps of 50 deg c when hammering it around Brands .

it is because you do not have a fuel cut defender.

Denmark,

Whats because I don't have a fuel cut defender ?

I take it you meant thats why I blew a piston, and not why its pinking its nutz off over 1.3bar.

Running with what was probably a peak of 27PSI during a hillclimb was what caused the piston go.

Blew the IC clean off ! Broke its bolts holding it down. If that wasn't a sign of its running TOOO much boost I don't know what was. So when it blew a piston I could hardly say I didn't see it coming !
