Hi John,
I've just done the same (ie brought ngk laser platinum for my Legacy). I set it at 0.7mm as it said in the manual and had this was comfirmed by the Subaru garage.
A bit expensive arn't they! The motor did seem to go quite a bit smoother after though.

i had tought of it. but i'v read that in the older scoob's this can seriously affect the air flow meter. so for now i'm going for the pipercross or the k&n panel filter(cheaper)
as you know i'v put a few squids back into the car already.
