Cool

Having recently fitted a full system exhaust is it really worth fitting an aftermarket dump valve next or is it as some say a complete waste of time and money. Am i better of saving all this extra cash and getting an ECU re-map next year.

Any views/experiences of different manufacturers etc. Would be appreciated.

I've fitted one to my 03 wrx and love the sound (its a bailey dv12). Its not too loud, and you can drive most of the time without making it whooosh. I like it anyway-but each to their own

Dont bother mate the original is the best, the VTA valves are pants and offer NO gains over the standard recirc valve. It was meant to have a recirc so i would leave it well alone.

The noise of a VTA gets annoying after a while and makes your car sound cheap and tacky.Dont waste your cash.

I would sooner keep the original system,it works for the manufacturer, it simply returns the excess boost pressure "back" into the system anyway.
if you simply want noise and to rev the nuts off the turbo bearings by running it off load, go ahead.
i'd sooner save the money, keep it quiet and put the money towards the fuel.

Zippy, the car's also ment to have cat's. Doesn't mean it's best. Personally i'd say i noticed a difference between gears using an aftermarket DV. I'd also say it's slightly better with no DV at all. The safest thing to do would be to uprate to an aftermarket re-circ v/v, but it's not really worth the money IMHO unless the OEM one is leaking (or you're running too much boost for it ).

Scoobyslut, please explain the thing about the bearings? I have never heard of this before

Cool

Different people will have different views to others on this. You either love it or hate it...

...personally I have a HKS SSQV on mine which is top quality. No noise around town but open her up and it ttsssshhhh's at you v agressively! Also lots of pops and bangs too with a VTA and full de-cat.

Also another area of debate is whether it is good for performance in any way...my personal opinion is that it does improve spool on gearchanging, but thats just my view.

If you like the sound then go for one (choose wisely as they all sound quite different), or if you don't like the noise then just stick with the standard re-circ.

RB5 ...what have cats got to do with a question on a DV ? If he had asked about the exhaust system i would have told him to bin the standard restrictive version and buy a full de-cat.

Keep on topic as he asked was a DV worth the money and i said keep with OEM as it works best.

each to there own,

if you like the noise - buy one.

if you don't - don't buy one.

simple as that...

oem is a big pile of poo. Use a well suited BOV & you'll think the car's gone all soggy if you back to it.
However, you need to get the right one
HKS is extremely good, but expensive. Forge is good, but only when you've got it set up right for your system, and then only if you've got a tough turbo (ie not a VF series one). But both can cause fuelling problems on lift-off - a shuddering. However, the improvement between the gears makes it worthwhile .
That's all IMHO: I don't care about phhhh or woosh noises, just the performance, and I have a reasonably large turbo running at 'higher than typical' boost - both make quite a difference to the choice of BOV
As a sort of aside, I'd like to point out the APS system as an interesting alternative - the way that it works seems to reduce the lift-off shudder, and also dump boost effectively. Works well but appears to get confused above about 1.6 bar... no obvious problems but the AFR goes a little odd!

Best spool up / lowest lag - NO dump valve! As long as turbo can stand the strain!!

Realistic best, an improved recirc dump valve, to over come the ( few ) limitations of the original, i.e. leaks at high boost, etc.

VTA - sound .. nice or not.. but throws off the ECU / fuel mapping as dumps the measured air outside the inlet on lift off, so over rich ( waste fuel, wash bores, backfire etc. ) but backfires for pops and bangs more as hot unburnt fuel hits fresh air, or in exhaaust pipe.

As they say above, you pays yer money you takes your choice.

Me ... I went for a recirc after market ( Forge ) dump valve when I raised boost.
