milltek
Fitted a Milltek rear muffler to my RB5 early in December. Looks great and sounds fantastic! Took me 30 minutes to fit and am impressed by the quality. I took the badge of 'cos I don't like it - came off fairly easily. Didn't cost me extra on the insurance either. Sound levels in the car are more than acceptable, being quiet at motorway speeds but still has a lovely groal when you hammer thro' the gears.
I have a Milltek backbox on my 93 WRX. I've had it for about 6 months nonw and the noise is just getting better and better. Has anyone got a milltek centre section as well? I fancy doing away with the Cat and wanna know how they sound with the centre section and backbox.

Yes, Mark, I've got the Milltek back box and centre section.
Had the back box for 8 months before fitting the de-cat centre section in December last year.
I can't actually say that I've noticed any additional noise or a great improvement in the engine response (perhaps a little in the mid range). Only thing I can say is that it was a b*gg*r to fit!
Had to enlarge the holes in the downpipe end mounting flange, had to find my own nuts, bolts and springs to fit it in the end, I was not impressed.
I guess that unless a decat down pipe is fitted as well there won't be a significant difference, mind you with this fitted I expect that the noise will be impressive, and ther may even be an afterburner effect on the overrun!

Happy - Chuffed to bits with the backbox, IMHO sounds slightly deeper than the scoobysport item, has caused me endless hours of pleasure ( going through tunnels, under bridges, and past police speed traps below the limit gurgling nicely
).
Mark - Yes the centre section does have silencer section, positioned in the same place as the CAT was, it's a smaller box though, probably the reason I haven't noticed any increase in noise since fitting it.

Happy - forgot to say that there certainly is a power increase with the back box and an Air Filter fitted, check out the dynomite scoobies web page (or what ever it is called no - Paul Strong's site) my car is on there from one of the PE Rolling Road days (May 99), and you should see the power and torque curves.
Alan - no wav file that I know of, sorry. I wouldn't say it that a Milltek box is any louder or quieter than the Scoobysport box, just slightly different sounding, the larger Tail Pipe may have something to do with it.

I will e-mail some pictures to you first thing tomorrow. I think the Milltek is by far the best looking tail trim you can get. It fits to the car very well and easily with no touch conditions. The sound quality is great and not intrusive. I bought one 'cos I have worked with Milltek on a protoype Jaguar. Their service and expertise is among the very best.
IainP,
Thanks for the Piccies.
The rest,
I fitted a Milltek centre and rear to a 1 day old MY00. Fitting was done locally and took around 30 mins £25.
The noise is great (unobtrusive but loud when you give it some welly) and it gives better mid-range (don't know exact figures though).
PS The guys at Milltek told me that the centre had a resonator and not a silencer.

Jon et al,
When I bought my Milltek back box in May '99 it was about 200 quid inc vat and delivery (within the UK).
I bought my centre section (with resonator!)in November '99 and it cost me 120 quid (again inclusive).
I seem to remember that they sold the full system ( centre and back box) for about 300 quid all in as a 'deal'.

TimW is absolutely correct. I fitted a centre and rear box two weeks ago. Wrong the boys at Tyres Northampton did actually (Cheers!!). Milltek only do the centre and rear units at present, my recepit shows I paid £300 inc. VAT. Cheaper than SS back Box alone. It sits very nicely on the car and fits my MY00 very well.

Spoke to a chap from Milltek at the Autosport show, he mentioned that they maybe launching a 3" bore system soon (current is 2.5") and may even be making a downpipe, but were unsure of the aproach to take (twin dump, or expansion chamber). One to follow I think...

D'oh.
The secret's out so I may as well tell you.
Milltek are developing the above mentioned system with our input at our instruction. (Scooby Mania).
The kit will be 3" straight through with an option for Cat, and/or resonator.
It will where practical be compatible with 2'75" system (standard is not 2.5") it will also have a single 3" downpipe or Twin Dump down pipe, specifically engineered for us, available exclusively through us.
Mike.
