sure it's not the starter motor relay "ticking" mine did the same after leaving for a couple of weeks on holiday, Just used bird to push car down drive bump start that turned the starter, soak with wd40 fine ever since.

Sorry to state the obvious, but these are classic flat battery symptons.
Try jump starting it first before pulling it to bits.

Didn't the old "key in the lock" trick work?

UPDATE

Well im home....

thanks to the AA

the cost nowt!!!

and the problem was................

not the immob or funnyenough the battery!!! although the battery was to blame..............

the car has a 4 post battery with a clamp and jumper arrangement..

what had happened was the battery was supplying 12v so all the systems kept running clock immob etc,

when the immob was disabled and a load on the battery applied ...

there was a massive resistance accros the + terminal and the volts were only at 8v hence clicks etc...

the AA man removed and cleaned both terminals/ the spacers and the jumper arrangement

hey presto alls well

a subsequent check of crank capacity on the battery and load / voltage drops confirmed that the battery is ok and dosn't need replacing..

of interest is that the 0802 cobra immobiliser is now discontinued

and an updraded system is fitted... the local dealer near me quoted £85inc supplied and fitted... cat 2 thatcham approved

thanks for your replys
