Hi all,

I am currently looking to sell my 250 BHP Jordan Civic. I am looking at either an Evo 7 or a Subaru STi import or UK models. I have yet to find the right deal but don't mind either.

I am basically looking for your thougfhts on the two cars. (Non biased hopefully) My friend has a P1 and have driven that and the new Uk STi but I still felt the Evo 7 to be faster??

There is an STi V7 with 310 BHp that may be a different car all together.

Please pass your thoughts on the cars.

didnt u post this on the lancer site too, anyway im in the exact position as you, soon as sell my car its either a scoob or an evo 7. Im in two minds and its killing me. So whatever response you get ill take into consideratrion too.

Ye, very much in a "can't make my mind up" situation. I've just had to buy a new blooming radiator for my Jordan as a stone hit it and burst it. Could do without that.

But ye, on the hunt for an Evo or Scooby but which, I just dont knoiw???

You've really got to specify what you want in a car, otherwise the thread will turn into yet another 'which is best, evo or scoob' type argument. The question is which is best for YOU!

 

The EVO is a very good choice and you will not be dissapointed. The EVO can cost more to run, though its mechanicals appear to be stronger than the subaru for hard thrashing over many miles.

Most EVO's actually pull significantly more bhp than the quoted 'gentlmens agreement' 276, and I know that my old EVO 5 was faster in a staight line than my STi 8.

But I still love my UK STi and I chose it over an 8 (and an unregistered 7 the dealership had in) because it felt good to drive, made a wonderfull noise and I felt like a change.

All in all, flip a coin and get either, you will love it!

 

iv got a nice STI7PPP Prodrive Type UK for sale,325bhp,see in the for sale section.

I was in the same situation last Summer.

Bought a JDM Import STi 7, after trying an EVO 7 and UK STi.

The JDM STi 7 is quicker than an EVO 6 I had, and a lot more reliable.

Ask yourself can you afford the Evo,the running costs if done properly are horrific, heavier on fuel than a Scoob and servicing every 4500 miles.
The Evo itself if costs are not an issue is great and so is the STI but to live with as a day to day car the STI is the better choice.
To buy the STI with a PPP from new is still cheaper than the EVO so the power issue shouldnt come into it.
If you are doing cross country blasts then the Evo is the one to have but its too harsh on a daily basis.

scooby's do sound better

 

Evo is lighter, handles better, has a wider power band, better gearing, better intercooler, fair bit more torque. It doesn't sound as good and has a smaller fuel tank plus frequent AYC services. Try both then decide.

 

i tried both & have decided on the STi8 (hopefully MY04) which will b ready for Mar04, take the scooby, better screwed to gether, better day to day & hey "its the car dreams are made of"

I'd argue that point, esp. when the Evo has open pipe, airfilter and dump valve , but i carnt be arsed

 

I am in the same position at the moment, changing my mind almost daily on which to get next. Today it's the STI.
I thought I could live with the EVO's extra servicing, insurance and fuel costs for the advantages mentioned above. After looking around the mlr forums it seems to me they are not as reliable as the scoobs, the clutch looks like a real weak point a lot not making it to 10000 miles. They cost around £800 to replace as they aren't covered under warranty. It would really upset me to have to pay that yearly over and above everything else.

I'll probably change my mind again tomorrow though

 

i'd go for the evo7 not that i think there any better than scoobys just because around my way evos are as rare as rocking horse s***!

Theres several owners on the MLR who's clutches have lasted over 30k, i changed mine at 32k (been running 360bhp for the last 10k) but only as the syncros in the box were playing up, the clutch was replaced as a matter of course.

Life of the clutch depends on the driver, simple as that. Try doing standing starts/launches and the clutch will last weeks!! Because i wanted to do drag racing, i fitted a 3 plate Exedy clutch, over 35 7,000rpm launches and she's still fine.


Drive them both and take it from there, all cars have weaknesses, esp. when abused.

Evo... If you do low-ish mileage... and want a more track orientated car, it is a very focused motor!
Scoob if you’re using it a little more... I personally went STi PPP... and being really into my driving I still don't think the EVO justified the huge costs that it would have created " I like to use my car allot- not watch it" Against being able to lap a track 1 second quicker and get to the ton 1 second quicker... 99.9% of the time your never going to notice the difference... and sure enough over the moors flat out. YOU CAN'T!
It simply didn't make sense "for me" to pay the extra $$$ ongoing... for the small performance benefit...
After all think how many times you give it the full 7k rpm... most of the time you demolish your fave B road, nail your fave circle and exit the odd nice bend using up to say 5-6k and the torque... In other words 99% of the time the Scoob does the business and sounds better...
Now if you gave me the performance advantage of a TVR or 911 turbo then it’s worth the extra running costs. But the Evo just doesn't justify the huge costs...
My 20k service will be costing me £185... Less than half the price of the 9k EVO...
If you want an Evo though- their are tons of 5 thousand mile examples at the dealers... And lots of owners who nearly had a coronary when they realised how quick 4500 miles arrives, and the costs involved.

I had and EVO 6 Makinen and it was awesome. New tyres after 7k tho and Brake pads all round too. Think my service with brake pads was £476. Normal AYC service was £280. Cost a bit more to insure too.
Was totally reliable. I decatted it and got 320bhp. Cool car had water spray button. My girlfriend could use that to take her mind off the 100mph drifts etc.
The car was awesome until i found out the active yaw does not work when you get airborn!!! Oaktree 1 Evo Nil. Wrote it off. The airbags did their job tho as did the explosive pre-tensioners on the seatbelts. The car saved us.
Got a WRX now and it does sound nice. Not as fast tho.
If you worry about running costs go buy a crap car!!

 

i've been out in a FQ300 E8 this afternoon.. very nice! so quick.. 6 speed box is good too
still like the 7 over the 8 tho
