first tank of optimax went in this mornin mick so fingers crossed...

Made no difference whatsoever to low speed/cold hestitation.
My engine did melt though.

 

i,ve had no problems with optimax in fact i try to use it all the time i fill up if possible,hesitation when cold seems to be a scooby trait i,ve been told they all do it to some degree when cold but mine a 1994 import does it for a couple of minutes but once i,m going no problem so far

 

If your engine is suffering a physical problem, changing the brand of fuel used is not going to cure it (although, if you're using Supermarket "normal" unleaded at the moment, your engine will likely feel healthier on Optimax).

The one thing I don't think anyone's mentioned yet, either on this thread or the other, is the type of ECU you are using. If your car was a late MY99, it may have the AE802 ECU that was fitted as standard to the MY00. These ECU's are often found to cause this sort of problem, and in this case the common fix would be to get a remap, or buy a secondhand AE800 or AE801 unit.

Either way, if you're still suffering from this issue, it'd be worth lifting the kickplate to see what you've got, as if it is an 801, at least you'll able to avoid going through the rest of the car looking for a cause.

 

Hi Riftzone.. Just wondering how your getting on with the optimax? They ran out of it today so i had to put normal unleaded in and the hesitation came back after a while. Glad i only put a fiver in.

Eh? If you're trundling round with just a gallon of petrol in the tank, there's another big potential cause of hesitation in fuel starvation. Are you sure that's not what it was?

 

half way thru my first tank of optimax mick. always been sceptical about benefits of fuel - tried super a few times now and no difference at all to running of car.

however, optimax seems to be a different story. the slight heatshield resonance i get when engine is under load has disappeared overnight with optimax so must be running smoother. deffo seems more powerful.

hesitation - seems to be a slight improvement - done it once this week as opposed to virtually every day. there'll still be a bit of normal unleaded mixed in at the mo (fuel warning hadnt quite come on when i filled with optimax) so hoping that it'll have gone completely by my third tank.

so, looks promising but early days yet....

 

Run it for several thousand miles, fill up with Optimax from a number of different garages when you do it , then tell me that every tank worked really well, and none felt 'flat'... not for me thanks, but good luck.

 

not noticed the slightest difference with Optimax, Ultima or Safeway's! (performance, smoothness or economy). The only difference is that the first 2 cost shed loads more than the latter :-( Maybe it's early days and the longer the engine is run on "regular" petrol the dirtier it will get (but I ain't too convinced) More hype than scientific results ! MY03 WRX btw......
