Need some help here,

Sti V, behind alternator.

I have three pipes coming out of the red thing. (inlet manifold?)

One on left, two on right (looking from front of car) no spare nipple as on MY98. One on left runs to the left with the spark plug leads (red).

Which one can I use to T off from for the fitting of a boost gauge?

As you cen tell, technical terms are not my thing.

This has got to be the best boost gause for the scooby!

Whichever pipe you choose to T off from, make sure you secure the hoses with clips/tiewraps/zipties for safety. You don't want any sensor/control hoses popping off! Clip/Tie any pipes you pull off the manifold, just to be sure.

I read firefoxs' email about this, so I was going to buy some hose clips to secure all the pipe ends on the manifold and the T section and on the back of the gauge.

But I still need to nkow what pipe I need to use (is best to use) as per my first post.

Also, does anyone know what wire is the switchable live feed that goes into the fog lihgt switch, is it the purple one?

OK, called GGR and asked the same question, they tell me to use the pipe going to (coming from) the dump valve which is the pipe second in from the right. Would you all agree with this?

Spoke to some chap at PE today, he tells me the pipe to use is the one going to the fuel pressure regulator but could not tell me exactly which pipe it was. I've not got a clue what this is or looks like

Can someone who has fitted a boost gauge to an Sti V please help. I've booked a day of work on Friday to fit it and would like to find out which one to use so I don't **** anything in the process.

I know this might seem trivial but PPPLLLEEEEAAAASSSEEEE HELP.

Any vac pipe that routes to the manifold...I think the red thing in your case...will be sensing manifold vacuum/boost pressure.
I have noticed on my MY99 that the manifold may have spare take-offs that have rubber blanking caps fitted. Either use on of these or find one of the fore-amentioned pipes and T into it.

All the previous mails are probably correct because each pipe routes to a different component but all measure the same thing. Thus you have a choice..fuel pres.regulator or dump valve or waste gate actuator.

Might be best to leave the fuel reg. one well alone, because if this came off it could cause engine damage. I would recommend the pipe to the MAP sensor - if this comes off, the ECU soon realises something's wrong and will not allow high boost. True for the UK MY97 anyway. Some pictures on

 

I concur.

also, avoid the waste gate actuator (diaphragm)..whether this was just a typo or not ?? but this hose is immediately after the turbo and before the intercooler.It may not necessarily show the same levels as the inlet manifold.

As luck would have it I chose to use the pipe you recommended, (I didn't read your post until after I had done the deed). I chose the pipe on the left, the same one as you by the looks of it (I recognise the white round thing with the sponge on the otside). The only reason I chose this one was down to the length of the vaccum hose supplied with the kit.

If I was you I'd get someone to install it for you, there is quite alot of hassle involved in removing the top piece of plastic on the steering column. You have to undo the bracket the holds the whole steering column in place to lower everything enough to remove said piece. Although I must admit, it does look the bollox. If anyone is interested I will take some photo's (thats if someone would be kind enough to put them on this board).
