They quoted me £3500 + VAT for an STI Engine with 14000 miles.

Or £2500 + vat plus the old engine ..

Are these prices realistic or can i expect cheaper if i look around?

In fairness Currymonster, the moral of this story is probably to not buy Pagid discs from anyone, rather than simply not buy them from Mindless Impreza. If the disc design is inherently prone to warpage, they'll go off no matter where in the country they were purchased.
