Im looking at selling my bugeye MY01 WRX, for say 13K and buying two cars with the money. one for my wife (cos we share the scoob) and a WRX classic for me for about 5-7K.
my reasons are:
1.the scoob is clocking mileage fast, 11k since feb03.
2.if she`s working im restricted with the car.
3.I prefer the older shape.


Is this a good idea? cant afford to buy another, so need to sell to get two cheaper ones.
Are older (93-96) scoobs still worth buying?
help and all opinions really would be of great benefit to me.
this is for sale in autotrader at £6400 with 70k on the clock 1995.this is the kinda thing i`d be going for.

Swapping cars cost money when dealing with the trade, part-ex are always low and forecourt prices are always high so you lose both ways.

Also costs a lot to run two cars, double insurance (one of you will probably start with 0% ncb), double tax, double fuel, double servicing, double repairs/parts, double mots. Its not necessarily buying the cars its the up keep. Well you did push for an answer

 

Buy her an old banger

Got the g/f an L reg 205 with only 9000 miles (yes really!) for a grand. Cam-belt and 4 new tyres later and it's an old new car

She's happy, I'm happy - and I'd rather be clocking up 8000 miles since April (Just had it serviced again!) in my new scoob than an old one...

PS I do prefer the looks of the old shape - but they're genuinely not as good (Although only had an old sport). P1s best bet, but then you're not saving any money...

 

I know its easy for me to say, but find some extra cash and get a cheap runaround.

Youll always lose money buying & selling cars and if your happy with your bugeye you might regret buying an older impreza which you wont fully know the history of. Regardless of how good they are there are still dogs around and the car's bound to have taken some abuse over ~8+ years of ownership.

I bought an early gti-6 for £4k but was looking for a £2k 205 when I went for 2nd car (have no discipline!). Ideal choice is 306 d turbo for £3k IMHO.

You'll put less mileage on the Impreza and spend less of fuel. The wife can still use the Impreza so she doesnt feel she's getting a raw deal.

Insurance is a pain but admiral gave me full introductory (60%) bonus when I took out a second policy with them.

Spending equal amounts on 2 cars Ive found ultimately compromising. End up not wanting to leave either of them in dodgy places or, feeling like you dont own a decent car from my little experience so far.

Also, theres plenty of decent cheap cars around if you dont mind image or pitfalls...Never been able to persuade my missus tho' so good luck.

 

at the moment the scoob insurance is in my wifes name, mine is suspended and if I use it now i`ll be back on 6 yrs NCD. double costs for fuel/servicing/tax/mot/repairs etc not a problem, just dont have money now to outlay for a decent car for her.
she does motorway mileage to work and back and would have a diesel, but i dont want to scrimp on a dirt cheap car cos i need to know its reliable for her.
yes i`d miss the bugeye, but also i cant do the modifications to it i want seeing as i have to compromise with her(not too loud an exhaust/no dump valve)etc.

 

Sorry, forgot to add that my mate bought a 90k MY98 Turbo about 6 months back for about £7k. Seems to have had a hard life but handles pretty similarly to my RB5 and feels just as quick. Had a few niggles such as Clutch (to be expected) and radiator, but considering how it gets driven they do seem to absorb abuse very well. I would be reluctant to buy that type of car but it does seemed to have worked for him at least.

 

make the bird start with 0% NCB, it will probably still only cost her 20pence a year to insure sumthing

Do what I did. Buy her a 95 - 97 ish Mitsubishi FTO for about £6k...

If she's anything like my other half she'll love the shape and style of the FTO and leave you to your own devices.

If you go for the GR rather than the GPX (Only difference is Variable valve timing) you'll be quids in on the insurance too. GR is still a 2.0 V6 24v and is no slouch.

Worth a look I reckon.

 

If day to day running isnt a problem then why not buy a KA. My local dealer is doing KA 1.3 for £109 deposit and £109 a month. Or a fiesta 1.25 for £139 down and £139 a month

 

I seen that scoob on autotrader the other day,and was gonna buy it myself....(if it was black) bought me a black 94 wrx and i lav it!
