I currently have a MY99 UK Turbo and the only power gain mods so far are a different BB and a green panel filter.
Pathetic I know, but I'm trying to go down the TEK 2 route to gain a little more power, without having to resort to removing cats etc.
I've been informed that if I fit a TEK 2 I may have to change the standard Turbo hoses as they may not be able to handle the extra boost.
I've found a few prices for the samco set (3 pieces) but no pics of them.
I also keep hearing peeps mention changing the Y piece hose for a prodrive metal y piece.
Here's the questions bit at last -
1. Does the Samco set replace the Y piece or do I have to purchase one separatly ?
2. Do you really need to change the hoses for a Tek 2 and if you don't what's the risks ?
Any replies / thoughts appreciated

From: I wish we had a non-profit making website to put here.
The samco kit replaces the whole thing with silicon.......i'e' there's no metal piece like in STI's picture.
Its worth changing the standard parts at least on the underside of the top mount. Its ABS plastic and my mapper had seen a few split.

Thanks for the replies - much appreciated.
I'd got it into my head that I would buy the Samco set then have to source a metal Y piece - you've put my mind at rest that all I need is a new Samco set - Cheers.

I would suggest changing the downpipe and if you must keep one cat let it be the centre section which should allow MOT pass in most cases. The alternative is to replace the centre as well - it takes only a short time to change it once a year for the MOT.
The hoses will be good too.

John,
I thought that the TEK 2 was mapped to take into account the fact that cats are presant and Tek 2.5 was for decatted cars ?
I'm getting even more confusesd now !
Is it necassary to change the downpipe for a Tek 2 or just a nice to have ?
Tripple,

Hi Simon,
I'm getting even more confused.
As you know I'm on a limited budget and have to conform to a noise policy due to "er indoors"
I therefore can't decatt the downpipe as waking our little ones @ 7 every morning isn't a option.
I would decatt the centre and replace it with a resinator centre if reqired but again this would eat into the Tek budget.
Maybe I'm going about gaining a little more power the wrong way and should consider smaller changes such as Samco's, decat centre, boost controller, fuel pump etc etc etc before opting for a Tek.
Any thoughts peeps ?

A good exhaust can give you as much as an ECU again.
I've tried Tek 2 and 2.5 with a standard double catted exhaust and they were OK, but I have not tested enough to strongly recommend them in all cases, whereas with confidence I can recommend either on a fully decatted intercooler hosed car. Like the standard ECU they can pretty much cope with a fair selection of mods and be OK.
