Don't know if this has been asked before, but i'll ask anyway.
What's your preference overall?
Myself, I considered both, drove both and took into account factors such as functionality, looks, handling, nickability, rarity etc. and I came down on the side of the wagon (it won on most of the above), the only thing that i'm not sure about is looks - but a lot of people say to me they prefer the wagon to the 4 door.

Wagon
Is that what they call the estate version of the Impreza?
I prefer the 4dr Saloon, but only cos I have one.

I bought the wagon as you can't fit much into the back of the saloon (I lead an active lifestlyle) Think I prefer the looks too, less OTT and no big spoiler.
Having said that there was a type RA saloon in the for sale section with the small rear spoiler and that looked v.nice.

Looks wise the only differing things between the saloon and wagon (apart from the back hatch obviously) is the wheel arches - flared on the saloon, not on the wagon.
I've driven a wagon for a while now, and if I was in the market for a new Impreza, it'd be another one without hesitation. Practical, (especially if you have a family) and a bit 'Q'.

I went to pick a friend up the other night and parked my car on the street while I went to call for him. As I was walking back to the car there was bunch of 14-15 year old kids hanging round :
'Cool thats an Impreza innit ?'
'Yeah arent they supposed to be dead fast'
'Yeah but its the estate it's crap'

So there you have it - tomorrow's TWOCcers think it sucks, so it can't be all that bad !!

what I notice about the scoobs after driving Audi's is alot of road and transmission noise at anything over 40mph.

I think the waggon suffers a bit more than the 4 door, I drive a 4 door partly down to my opinion on looks and we have an estate car already but I'd buy a waggon for the same reasons as stated above under different circumstances, still a scoob and less obvious and pinchable!

WAGON!
higher "stealth" score
more practical (kids, dogs, kitesurf etc, roofrails)
quirkier looks i.e. none petrolheads haven;'t got a clue what it is

all been said before

pity WRX03 wagon doesn't have flared arches though (oops - that goes against my stealth theory)

I bought a wagon for practical reasons, and do like the look of them.
But inside is very noisy compared to 4dr. Especially with an aftermarket exhaust, very boomy inside the cabin.

I think next time round it will be a 2 or 4dr.

Surely it has to be better if the local ned/car thief population thinks it's slow and crap.
As they are the people buying 4 door Imprezas and sticking neons, tuning stickers and other crap all over their cars it has to be a good thing that they don't like the wagon.

Have a MY 98 Wagon, its ideal for me, plenty of room, especially with the seats down, its not as noticeable as a saloon, don't get as many people staring as my pal in his 4 door, depends what you want really.

I feel its probably less likely to be stolen, bu who knows.

Don't get many boy-racers having a go either, when they do, its nice to give them a bit of a surprise.

Cheers

Cool

I had a 94 wagon and loved it. Very practical and many people said they preferred its looks to the saloon. As stated above, the local kids did not approve and left it alone (why did you get the estate you mad 'ed!).
From Bugeye onwards it has to be the wagon. What were they thinking about with those flared wheel arches! They look far too max power for my tastes, although they probably add 20Bhp

Thumbs up

I changed my MY99 saloon for a MY00 wagon when the misses produced our youngster. Now me, the misses, junior, and the 2 dogs can all have a day out

the practicality won me over - its ample for our needs, without even resorting to the roofbars...yet.

I was told not to change by some who said the wagon will be harder to sell......but as I wasn't buying it in order to sell it, I bought it. now does that make sense?

Wagon is cheaper to purchase initially, secondhand- despite being the more useable car and more expensive in the first place. Bargain. Plus referring to another thread on here all the lax power *** ends hate them. Good enough reason in my book.

Debadge and restricting mods to either engine / breathing is best for 5dr stealth.

I thought the 5drs were better for bank jobs as matey with the 12 gauge can sit in the open hatch along with the 'swag' bags and let fly with buckshot ?

Yeah I must agree whith the weava! Wagons are far more subtle if you(like myself) want to be a bit more stealthy They are the way foward, I wouldn't have it any other way!!!
