I just checked out Glass's consumer values link on the exchange and mart web-site and the robbing b'stards have started charging £2.95 for EACH vehicle value!

£2.95 for a bloody valuation!

At least Dick Turpin wore a bloody mask!

Parkers charge aswell,

Its easy to get a free vaulation, just walk into any Franchise dealer and ask for an appraisal, then add about £1500 to thier best price. Best to go to 2 or 3 to get an average price

I learnt this from experience of giving the bloody appraisals when I was a car salesman

Boro,

I assume they are trade-in values?

Also, why the difference between cap and glass's and which one do the trade use?

By the way....

Yes they were trade values but not part-ex prices. P/X prices "should" be higher.

Dealers generally use Glass's but alot will use both and use the lower values as their starting point.

2003 '03 plate Renaultsport Clio 172 Cup with 4,000 miles?

Glass's: £10525
CAP: £10050

Glass's arrive at their prices using the following criteria:-

Auctions: Auctions are visited and the major players contribute a breakdown of prices paid nationwide 'under the hammer'

Advertised Prices: Taken from the national and provincial press advertising by franchised and non-franchised dealers. These are gathered daily from all over the UK.

Dealer Returns: Active dealers with a broad geographical spread send in regular returns of actual buying and selling prices.

Fleet, Rental and Leasing: The major companies supply the Guide with their disposal prices and the market trends in their sector. Block disposals can have significant effects on pricing month to month.

Manufacturers: Disposal prices

One thing I always found was you had the punter come in armed with thier Parkers guide and the difference between that and glasses was quite a bit, the look on peolples faces when you told them how much thier pride and joy was worth was part of the reason I quit, too soft hearted for the job.

Still had fun wrecking a few of the bangers in the yard. sold to scraper for 50p afterwards.

Strangely enough on private sale, my car was the same on Parkers, Glasses & CAP, bar a few quid either way

Amen to that - when I used to work in a dealership if the customer had a Parkers you knew you were never going to sell then a car because whatever Parkers said they would add another £1000 on top of that for good measure as its 'thier car & why shouldnt it be worth that' & when you kick em in the nuts & tell them its actually worth £4000 less than they thought you are a bit stuck where to go lol!

But its always fun doing it to the smartass pr1ck who thinks becuase he has a copy of Parkers he is Mr Trader Extrodiaire who in reality, unfortunately hasnt got a fecking clue how the motor trade works
