Still shaking writing this - driving my poor wee civic (luckily - lesser of two evils)

Saw little b@stards in the distance but since it was night time couldnt see to last moment when the threw a brick down from a walkway bridge onto my car whilst driving along motorway (i was doing about 65-70).

Brick smashed off the grill/bonnet smashed the windscreen to boot, and disintigrated over the car - the metal of the bonnet has split such was the force of it. Some bloody mess!!!!

Horrid thing is that had it been a split second later it was through the windscreen and not bouncing it. It hit the front grill/drivers headlight.

I'm going through a mixture of emotion - but the one thing is I'm a very very lucky person. My wee civic is a mess. Police only wanted me off the motorway (fair do's) but said it was an insurance job. Told them luckily it wasnt a ****ing murder report they were getting instead.

what is it with the kids who do this stuff????????? Hope they get theirs!

Well, well, would you believe it? Police not interested in a crime they can't make money out of? Who'd have thought it???

PS: glad you're OK:

Sorry to hear about that! Your a lucky guy!

It always makes me nervous when i see kids on motorway bridges.

Could that not be classed as some sort of attemted murder/reckless endangerment type thing... and the police didnt want to know????

I would say you are very lucky to be alive.
It's hard to believe what goes through the heads of some people.

You want to take a walk along that bridge every night from tonight until forever, just in the hope of catching the little buggers.

shocking.

Jesus H Christ, must have been sh!ting urself m8, i know i would, but glad to hear ur ok, i would put a compliant into ur local rgds the way you were dealt with by the police, only an Insurance job my ****, i would call it reckless endangerment and should be investigated properly not just brushed under the carpet like they seem to have done, would have been different if it had been a police car that it hit.

Glad u r ok. Happened to a mate of mine last year on the M1 when some kids threw a brick from a bridge which went through his sunroof and landed on the back seat - one very lucky boy indeed!!

As with you the police were not interested in the slightest

Just come in from having a good look in daylight - its all front end with deep scratches/dents running over the roof. The rear has escaped. Front is just a mess, although atleast the headlight protectors worked I suppose. The indent on the bonnet is shocking - right through the metal and the support strut underneath is cracked through. Only engine/underside damage is I have a holed radiator probably from debris. Magic.

Just feel gutted right now. Scoob is in bits due to engine failure, then this. 'Lucky white heather.......get your...'

The wee b@stards!!!! were 500 yards along from Harthill Services on the bridge going westbound toward Glasgow. Its the one where the wee guy was killed earlier this year trying to get kids off the motorway who were playing chicken, and all the flowers and football scarfs were on for weeks.

I just cant believe how lucky I was/am. The police response didnt surprise me at all, but I'm going to Airdrie Station to file the report - so atleast a record in made.

I'm fine guys - thanks for your support!

Ffs. What is this bloody world coming to?! Thank God you are ok. Typical f*cking Police. Go to the local papers about it. Shame the police and warn other locals about the little sh*ts that are endangering lives.

Once again, glad you are ok.

All the best

Duck me!!! They could have killed you! just by having a luagh, these little ***** are probably laughing about it right now, not realising just how serious it is.

I like to see how they's react if you threw a brick at them at 70mph.

I've had a fist sized brick hit my windscreen at 80mph (not thrown...flung up by a truck) and know the feeling you get. espically when it hits right in-line with your head! And there is nothing you can do while it hurtles towards you.

What is this country comming too? It wouldn't surprise me a single bit if a cerfew was put in force every night for under 16's. Because everything is getting out of hand, I can't even walk down my street without getting hassle off some 13year old gob****es

Thought I'd add... as red_dog says.... take it to papers, perhaps your local TV news may be interested? Take plenty of photos of the damage. You never know, some good may come of it.

Ali-B - I would hazard a guess that the terminal speed of the brick from the bridge was higher than 70mph (dependant on height of course).

Go give whoevers dropping bricks from that bridge again a mighty good kicking although the Police would probably be round within 30 seconds to arrest you

The speed of the brick isn't the issue here

It's the fact it was thrown in the first place

Well, without going into basic mechanics and physic, brick is travelling at momentum vertically, car is traveling hoziontally. So, brick is at 0kph horizontal but car is 120kph. But vertical motion is 0kph for the car. And the brick is acelatrating by 9.81 from a presumed initial speed of 0kph. Work out the rest. I cant be bothered

Glad you are OK!

This really is attempted murder - Police should investigate it as such.

If i chased after you with a brick and tried to cave your head in with it then i would be in serious trouble. what's the difference???

Police need to take this sort of thing seriously and nip it in the bud, not let it go until it escalates into a murder.

Call the local and national TV and newspapers se if you can get them interested, tell them what the Police said, they should have a field day!

Hmmmn - brick speed not the issue!!!

I was just trying to say I'd throw it a damn site faster than 70mph at the little w@nkers who did this.

Marky,

I can't believe that the police were not interested in catching the evil would be killers responsible. I can only think that I would be doing my best to embarrass them severely in the local and national press etc. I suppose you can only go to the cop shop as you say and file a report to start with.

Thank goodness it missed you at least.

The problem here is that if they "get away" with a brick this week, then next week it will be a concrete slab etc. They are likely to continue until someone is dead or they are caught.

Glad to hear you are OK.

Glad to hear your OK m8.

I go past that place every morning and it's always worrying when you see kids loitering on the bridge. It used to be kids just gobbin on your car or chuckin water balloons, but feckin bricks is gonna get someone killed.

In Wythenshawe near Manchester airport they have completely enclosed bridges as the population cannot be trusted not to launch stuff off the bridge, allways p1sses me off when I see people lurking on bridges beacause its distracting worrying about what they may or may not aim at you.

Sorry to hear about it. Like to string the little blighters upside down from the bridge in front of an oncoming 15 ton lorry!
Glad you are ok. Doesn't surprise me in the least about the police, rather care about the beer fund than anything.
Take care
