Stolen Scoobs Question ??
Your getting paranoid now? how long have you had your motor?
Its all kinds of motors that get stollen/hijacked etc... I think its due to better security that alot of cars get hijacked...
Its best not to worry too much and enjoy your motor
Things happen and we gota deal with em.. some problems are best dealt with a baseball bat

Its happening everywhere, and definately not just to scoobs, they'll take anything, but prefer performance/prestige motors.
Most scoobs are stolen to be used in'jobs', the rest are stolen to satisfy orders.
The usual method is to use a 'hook & cane' type device to lift the keys via the letterbox...I've known well over £100,000 worth of motors go in one night in a wealthy suburb of Liverpool.
PLEASE lads...keep your keys well out of sight of the front door.

Any car is a target - if they really want your car they will take it. All you can do is take precautuions with an alarm on car/tracker - a GARAGE is a must and if possible put an alarm on that seperate from your house alarm.
Anything more is an over kill. Do what makes you feel safe - then you can sleep at night without worry...

if you look on the "aircooled" VW forums you will see that they have as many old rusty camper vans and beetles stolen as we have scoobs stolen.......
its a pity the police that we pay for can't be used to "police" the streets instead of manning camera vans

i think youre more likely 2 have a old ****ter stolen than a nice moter. around my way and its proberbly the same everywhere else most moters are stolen by kids who just want a night of fun so they go 4 easy moters like old fords and novas with no alarms and wouldnt attempt anything that is a chllange. obversley if a real pro does target your car then it is as good as gone but thankfully most car theives aint that good at what they do
Well not going against you all
but i have had 2 Stolen off me while i've been working and we have had 3 or 4 brake in's at work just for scoobs, We have to lock them all away at night now and have 24Hour Survalence for them to be insured.

Government data on this issue can be found here:
http://www.crimereduction.gov.uk/cti2002.htm
1993-95 scoobs category red (more than 19 per thousand have beens stolen), 96 onwards are category yellow (between 5-19 per thousand have been stolen).
To put this in perspective, very few cars seem to fall into the green category, nearly all cars of any value are at least in yellow, unless they are very new.
In summary, they don't seem to be at any more risk than any other comparable car. Although the data doesn't cover 2002 (yet) I guess it's a lot better than relying on anecdotal evidence.
