Hi !

A garage in germany told me that the gearbox of the MY98 Turbo is not so good for more horse power (tuning) like an 96,97 and 99 gearbox !
Because the MY98 gearbox is not so strong like the others !
The garage also told me that the gearbox of an M98 Turbo is the same like an series Impreza, only with other transmission ratio !

I cant believe this !
So can anybody tell me if this is true ??!
And why ????

Thanks for reply

Yes... it is true. It has always been the problem ....eerrrr....legacy era till now.

I have 3 broken gearbox with me right now. 2nd and 3rd gearing rounded off.Work of art.

Reason....internal vibration(long box) and insufficient cooling system for the oil... I think.

I would used low pressure pump..oil jet to spray oil to the 2nd and 3rd gearing..oil cooler for the gearbox... thicker backplate.

The new Version 5 would be using shortbox. This is stronger in design and strength.

There is stronger gear kit in the market... but is very dear to buy.

Hope this help.

I've always thought something was funny with my gearbox. Sometimes its hard getting it in to 1st unless the car (MY98) has completely stopped. Moving into 2nd is notchy and not always a smooth flowing movement.

The stick 'wobbles' slightly when in neutral and you can 'feel' the gearbox through the stick.

Basically should I be worrying?

James
