I have had my WRX MY96 in for it's first 7.5 K service. It cost me £172.00 !!! Tileys in Bristol. They noted on the invoice that the car had noisy turbo bearings. Is this something bad? I ALWAYS let the car idle for over 1 minute after driving. I bought the car from DRScars in West Sussex 3 months ago, and i'm the first registered owner. Shall I go back to them and say what the dealer has noted? The car came with a 12 months warranty.

Any help appreciated, as as for this little hiccup the car has been brilliant :-)

Cheers,

Gethin.

I note that you have fitted some aftermarket performance parts. It may be wise to remove these and replace them with the original parts before returning the car to DSR cars re. noisy turbo bearings.
These upgrades may invalidate your warranty!

just a thought.

I would go straight back to DRS(where I got my car from)and tell them of the problem.Depending on which warranty they sold you,you 'should' be covered, certainly if they sold you either a Warranty Holdings Total,or Gold Driver Assured.Check your details.

If it's a '96, how are you the 1st owner ?.
How many miles did it have on the clock when you got it.Was it sold to you as NEW ?.

DON'T let Dennis FOB, BULL****,or mess you about.I found he does get things done, but you have to nag him silly.Hope he's ok with you.Good luck.

They sold me a Warranty Holdings Total.

The milage on the clock when I bought it was 2000 miles, and I was told they were demo miles in Japan. The documentation supplied with the car confirm this, and it was stamped by a Japanese dealer (showed 4500 odd Kms at last inspection). It had all the original documentation including the "Thank You" card from Subaru !!

The only after market item I have added to the car is a Magnex back box and Kenwood speakers.

I will give Dennis a call today and see what he says. I'll post his response. This problem has really got me worried, the car's a gem apart from this.

I wouldn't overly worry.W.H, are a massive Co',and I've found them ok to deal with in the past(about £8k claims for TVR !!)

You could ask Dennis how the car had 2k mls, when 4.5k km is about 2.8 mls ?.

Worst case, turbo's are only 'bolt on's',and you will be covered under warranty.

I have checked the warranty details. Not good.

When Matthew from DRS filled in the details, and any extra cover he did not tick the box marked "Turbo" therefore the Turbo unit is not covered. Everything else including the kitchen sink is, sod's law. Also the cover is for mechanical breakdown only, not for a "noisy" part. The maximum claim is £1000 per claim. If in the future the Turbo did go pop, what are the replacement costs involved? I just want to get it straight in my head "what if" because I do not want this to impair my enjoyment of this brilliant car.
Is it worth phoning DRS and/or warranty co. anyway to see what they say?

I'll just have to live with it. The car does not sound any different to any other UK Turbo I have been in, other that the whistle noise, is this normal for a WRX with the larger Turbo? Performance seems quite normal.

Any input appreciated!

Gethin.

p.s. Any meetings in the Bristol area? I'd like to meet up with some other Scooby people so they can se if the Turbo's OK or not! I have a distingt distrust of any mechanic's opinions, as they tend to get formed, in my experience, on what sort of day they are having!!! (No choccie biccies in the office etc etc...)

Gethin,

See the Events section - there's a proposed meet on 6th June at a pub at Congresbury, just off Jn21 of the M5. See you there!
