Going to look at laptops 2moro but i have no idea what spec i should be looking at. Got about £1000 to spend. What should i get for my money?

Buy the latest PC Pro magazine as it carries a good review on laptops that may fit your requirements. If not then at least you know what you can get for your money.

Not really. 256Mb DDR ram is the same capacity as 256Mb SD ram.

But DDR ram has the ability to run at double clock speed (DDR=double data rate) - if clock is 200Mhz, ram will run at 400Mhz.

Also, if you buy 2 identical DDR memory sticks and plug them into a motherboard that supports dual channel mode, the memory bandwidth is far superior to just have one stick running in single channel mode.
