dosenöffner,

No-one said the alarm was deactivated
nor did i m8.

OK....if they had a truck that looked like an official truck, what do they do if the owner comes back? leg it and leave the truck? they can't make a quick getaway in a pickup truck FFS. if it was a ligitimate truck then fine, they have all the time in the world but a thief in a pickup.....i can't see it.

I have had enough, how much bad luck with cars in less than 2 months! My Subaru has been stolen, parke on reasonably busy back street in Didsbury, went for lunch at 11.30 with g/f came back about 1.30, and the car had gone!!!!!!!

If its seen please call Greater Manchester Police!!!
Registration: X345 KBA

Thanks, Guys
I was going to have the tracker fitted on wednesday!
I have feeling somebodys insurance is going to go skyhigh! 1 car written off, second stolen!

CC - Blackjax. Either with or without a Clifford alarm.

CC: I was in your position 2 weeks ago , new jap scoob no security on it.
luckily i have a garage, and its all alarmed up with the house, so keeping her safe for the weekend before i had the security fitted was easy.

security...one rule... you can never have enough.
as a minimum good quality immobiliser/alarm CAT1 only. Go for the best you can afford. Clifford concept 600 is pretty damn good, Fuel cut, black jax, proximity alarm etc, nice piece of kit, bit expensive at 700 quid fitted tho. Next i'd recommed a Dipol/Barrier deadlock , and then a disklok for the steering wheel.
Personally i dont rate trackers, but i others on here will readily disagree.

Just a quick note. In my clifford hand book it states that if you have blackjax turned on, it invalidates the thatcham evaluation as thatcham regulations prohibit engine shutdown whilst the engine is running. Go figure?!?

Not necessarily...... if your Scoob's been nicked, do you really want it back? Plus not many seem to be recovered....

That's why we pay roughly and average of £700 per year insurance - why pay more when, if it does get nicked in that year, your premium and NCB is affected? Work out the maths (premium hike + excess versus additional cost of extra "effective" security)

I'm not going ot post what I've got but, the philosophy is "it's a car, if it goes, it goes - get another one".....

And "yes", I'm a Scoob-nut (on my 2nd one)....

Just my 2p - get a Cat1 and leave it like that.*

Dan

*This in no way indicates what my security arrangements are - mine's got loads more, but not through my doing (used mota)

EDITED TO ADD -

Forgot the nature of the post Very sorry for your loss/inconvenience etc.

Hope it's found safe

Ive been told that a steering lock coupled with the usual cat1 is a great deterrent... I guess because they have the added trouble of removing that before they can steer it, or push it in a straight line.

I feel for you, really I do - this is a terrible thing to happen and I dissagree that it is only a car.. it's YOUR car - I too would be totally gutted.

This may be a crazy crazy idea but anyone ever thaught of removing the steering wheel! You may feel a little daft walking around with one but they fit nicely in a monobag. If Johny theif takes a look inside and theres no wheel he might think twice. All you need is a small tool kit in the boot and your away. Remember to put the sreering lock on 1st.

Thumbs up

Had a Cat 1 Alarm, wasn't illegally parked, for god sakes I've had it less than a month! :O
Well back to my trusty Audis I guess, Police said not alot of chance of recovery, apparently been a fair few high performance cars going missing!

Anyway thanks Guys, I'm gutted but atleast I didn't have time to get really attached to it! (g/f hated it anyway lol)

just shows even anyone can steal anything if they really want to

misty, chrisph, slowboy, dead neurons, the 1st thing i'll do when i pick the car up is to have a cat1 alarm fitted as it will be needed for insurance. i think i'll have one of those blackjax gizmos too so they cant tow it away.

-cat1 alarm
-autolock 2000
-blackjax

should be enuf

**** me i'm worried already! now i remember the feeling i had with my last scoob parked outside...

just to add, i am a very light sleeper and will wake up at any noise, hasten to add i keep a rather large crowbar by my front door, always have done, i must admit i would fully use it (as i have the shortest of fuses over things like this) if anyone was attempting to steal my car...

probably end up locked up but there u go

GTI it was worth a try and I know the feeling when cars are taken its just I have seen a few threads on here where owners have said their cars were stolen and reported to the police only to find out a few days later they have been towed away. Yes it has happened on here and more than once.

Anyway sorry to hear about it.

Theres alread detachable steering wheel boss's available, for about £100 IIRC. I had one one on my GT4, but i always just used to make sure no one was looking and stuff the wheel under the drivers seat. from the outside, all you'd see what no wheel and no way to nick it

Most stuff parked on the street is lifted by a official looking truck. Anybody not knowing would think its being towed for illegal parking.

You may be VERY lucky and it will turn up somewhere in the next few days, as the thieves will leave it somewhere to see if it has a tracker fitted. If you dont get it back in a week, its too late.

Didn't think you could have a detatchable wheel on a Scooby - something to do with the airbag.

If you remove the airbag, insurance is void due to decreasing the safety aspect of the car......

Older wrxs, no probs, just remove the Nardi wheel...

Food for thought...

insurance being void? mines got a MOMO Corse wheel on, so there's no airbag, and my insurance is still ok(with L&V)

cant see how removing an airbag would void the insurance? doesnt make you any more likely to crash does it? unless it add 20bhp

When I got my Scooby, Tesco's who were my insurance company with my old car were £200 cheaper than anyone else but insisted it had a Tracker fitted and a Thatcham Cat 1 alarm and immobiliser... so i had them put on for peace of mind...

I got a dislok a while ago and it seems to be a very solid piece of equipment, would think it would definately take some hassle to get it off???

I'm referring to if you remove the factory fitted Momo airbag, you are removing part of the safety features of the car.....

This invalidates your insurance - if you don't notify them, of course.....

The Thatcham approved Disklok's are excellent as very hard to remove, I think a minimum 5 mins of 'work' to get them off. Their perfect for leaving your car parked in a street/car park during the day. Overnight is another problem, I guess if their determined enough they will get it off.

Also if they take it with a truck a DiscLok aint gonna help squat... Mine is always on tho to steer away that would-be oportunitist.

Well atleast after all that got two very nice phonecalls today, one from the insurance company saying if its not recovered by 5th September they will pay out in full (exactly what I paid) and the second from the Audi dealer a order of S4 has been cancelled and it is basically the same spec as I wanted just with a few more bits and in the same colour so I will have my new S4 Avant in just 5 weeks!

Lets hope it doesn't come back, lol
